The schematics of sites are good in this guide, especially if you want to avoid paying local guides, as you can work your way around the specific sites. However, these are only for the ones that the authors deemed important enough to draw out, for the rest there are just descriptions. We found the maps to be mediocre, as the main sites were labelled with number in cities, but there was no indication of where the entrance was, so you would be wandering around various buildings, skirting often massive ramparts, trying to find the way in, which is frustrating especially when locals revel in trying to charge you for simple directions or guiding you to the hidden doorway. If you choose not to encourage this selling of polite information you waste hours finding your way. More work needs to go into maps in all honesty, and these are not the only guides that fall below par.
On another note regarding maps: The hotels and restaurants listed in the book are not specifically labelled on any of the maps, and unless they sit on major roads, the roads aren't even on the maps, so it would actually be impossible to find them without buying a better map, or having someone show you where they are.
The worst feature of the book is the lack of travel information. This book is ideal if you are travelling around by car, and need no public transport at all (except the road map severely lacks detail, and there are no detailed city maps beyond the touristic parts). There are no sections on where to catch buses/trains in specific cities, where you arrive in cities when you do. The bus and train stations are on some of the maps, but not all.
It strikes me that this book has a lot of information for people who are perhaps on a prearranged tour, where transport and hotels (and potentially restaurants) are already scheduled. It is not a guide with which you could find your own way around a country independently.

Decent 7 July 2011
Format:Paperback
Does a decent job like all Eyewitness guides. Great on pics and is a virtual pictoral library of all those pics you never got to take of your destination. But, as with the entire range, lousy at pointing you toward or categorising the "must-sees" versus "don't-waste-your-times" like Rick Steves does. Get the feeling that Eyewitness guides are obliged to cover all areas geographically and therefore must offer guides to some areas in a region when those areas are simply a waste of time. Extremely irritating for trusting tourists.

A very good tourist guide with maps. I wish I'd spent more time reading it before I went :-) Its got plenty of detail and is presented in an easy-to-read format. Definitely recommended and at an excellent price.
