I have to say, I was hoping to like this guide as soon as I ordered it. We have had guides from DK before, and choose them over the alternatives (e.g. Rough Guide) because their approach is a lot more readable. This guide is no exception.

There is a nice balance between local history and modern context for each of the places. The pictures/illustrations give some more information than you get just reading about the places, which is the approach most guides take.

I suppose the compromise here is that there is less listings information than in a Rough Guide, but I feel this is a sensible way to do it since pages and pages of accommodation and restaurants are not that interesting - plus TripAdvisor etc have replaced that function of a traditional guidebook in my mind.

Overall really happy with the book and would recommend this, and others in the series, to potential travellers.

Using the book to help plan our holiday. Lots of interesting info, just what you'd expect from DK.Not the first time we have bought their Eyewitness travel books but you know that you'll always find out what you wanted and this was the updated edition published July 2012. we've also ordered DK's Berlin for a weekend break

As we are planning an extensive road trip throughout New England during 2014 we were looking to purchase a good travel guide that wasn’t too heavy or cumbersome . This item suites our needs exactly being full of useful information on places of interest plus other data on getting around the region, weather, shopping etc. All in all a very good buy.

Bought this in advance of and to use on our self drive tour of New England from where we've recently returned. Used it principally for the information it gives on the areas/places we visited which we found extremely useful but it provides lots of other information and tips too. Highly recommended.
