5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Guide Book 24 April 2010
By N.H.
This is an excellent guide.I am from Cyprus, have travelled extensively around the island, and have suggested this book to visiting friends and relatives who have used it and also liked it a lot.The book has the History section right--possibly the best condensed history of Cyprus I have ever read--,divides the island in 5 very useful sections, selects the best sites and puts them clearly on excellent updated maps,it has great photos that help one decide one's itinerary, and, above all,it is very well written. This guide is much better that the Lonely Planet one--that does not even mention St Neophytos Monastery in Pafos,or the Lempa Experimental Village.Cyprus can be explored in around 10 days, and this guide can truly help you plan your itinerary and enrich your travel experience.Buy it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Useful guide with some shortcomings! 19 Oct 2009
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
The island of cyprus is not a big island, but it has a really long and colourful history. The guide on hand does underline this fact and illustrates nicely the immense variety of architectonics found on this island. It has also features on the natural beauty, so lot to see. I found especially the small maps of city centres and the overviews of major attractions (churches, castles, monasteries, ancient cities) very useful. The photoes are for a good reason too, in order to know sort of what to look for and where to find it.
What it lacks is the current buzz and leisure tips, of how expensive it is to live and eat, where to go with children etc. It also doesn't tell you the grim military presence of all the armies present there with all the barbed wire and closed areas. The island is in this way made much smaller!
One striking fault in this book is not a word about UNESCO heritage sites! Paphos, Churches in Troodos region and Choirokitia were added on the list between 1980-1998. This guide from 2008 is oblivious to this fact and doesn't even list them all!
Lastly, the guide should be updated more often, because the building activity on Cyprus is immense and what was once perhaps a serene place may suddenly not be that anymore!

Clear travel guide that contains lots of information. Nice pictures and dozens of interesting details. This is pretty much what I expect travel guide to be.

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful guide for a whistle stop tour 28 Dec 2010
By jenksy
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I wanted this as guide for my holiday into Northern (Turkish) Cyprus.
There are lots of photos and a brief write-up of all the main attractions although the maps could be more helpful.
An excellent purchase for a whistle stop tour.
