Does what it says.... 10 Mar 2009
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This colourful and informative guide maintains the very high standard of the 'Eyewitness' series of guide books - I now have 14 of them. The 'birds eye' type street by street guides are particularly good and allow you to identify exactly where you are and ensure that you do not miss any of the area's sights. The 'Survival' section at the back of the books gives very good advice regarding health, security, transport and monetary issues - just what the traveller needs. Practicalities aside however, it is a very colourful and interesting book and makes a great read before, during and after the holiday.

It's a giant map 27 July 2002
By Rob
Format:Paperback
How do you review a map ?. Hmm. Well it's big, 2.5 x 2.5 feet, with a 1:4,250,000 scale and printed on slightly glossy paper which appears reasonably hard wareing.

Space around the map and on the back of the map is used for various extras including: Basic climate info for each main city. "What to see" attractions for each state/territory. A mileage table (or should that be a kilometreage table). Timezones. Calendar of annual events in each month and event map. Town/city places to visit. Street maps of main cities. Larger scale (1:2,825,000) map of East coast, Melbourne to Cairns. Aboriginal culture map. Oz wine regions. National parks. Main beaches map.

There's also a separate 30 page booklet which is an index-gazetteer... look up a town/city and get coordinates onto the map. Also 8 pages of tourist "survival info".

I suppose there's quite a bit there for the price of a map.

Very pleased with this book. Incredible photos- really, they are that good! Also, the info is very detailed about sights to see,places/things of interest.
Personally, it would be useful if the accommodation section had more budget places to stay ie hostels/campsites. But this was pretty much the only thing that I would improve.
