Excellent book. Gave detailed information district by district, including places to visit, eat etc. Problem was I forgot it and had to buy another guide which was awful. Would definitely recommend it to fellow Budapest travellers.

This is a small and convenient to use travel guide. We used it for 8 days in the city with our two young children. By necessity we took it easy, not packing our days, but there are still a number of things in the book that we haven't done, so I think it would suit most people staying in the city for up to a week.

If you are unfamiliar with the DK `Top Ten' series, they are simple to use. Each one starts with the Top Ten Highlights in a city, and then breaks each of those things into ten more recommendations. For example, St Stephen's Basilica is one of Budapest Top Ten things. The book then gives Ten Things to look out for in the Basilica itself. After the ten best things are dealt with, the book is broken down by geographical area, with the top ten best things to do in each, and also ten best cafes and restaurants nearby. There are also some specialist sections, like ten best things to do with children, ten best museums and galleries or ten best religious sites. Finally there is a 'Streetsmart' section which gives practical travel advice.

Everything we did, that was recommended in the book was very enjoyable. I found the map to be accurate (although the area covered wasn't that large) and the additional pull out map fits easily into a pocket. Our children enjoyed all the things that were recommended in the children's section, and in that respect the book was instrumental in ensuring that the children were entertained and the adults stayed sane.

The problem with the book, and it's not just specific to the Budapest guide, is the layout. By necessity there is some repetition. The Basilica appears in the Overall Top Ten and the religious sites Top Ten. Some attractions can appear in the three or more places, with differing, or even conflicting advice.

We were in Budapest for 4 days and I found this guide book to be too basic and too to the point - top 10 and that's it. It would have been better had I had another more detailed guide for Budapest to use along side it, but then why would you have this book at all? I'd only recommend it if your stay in Budapest was very short, like 2 days.

We could not have done without this guide book. We spent a lot of time deciding which guide to buy and were delighted with our choice. As a mother and daughter trying to find our way around an unfamiliar city the information it gave was invaluable. The maps were very clear and the way it divided Budapest into different areas with the top ten best sights, cafes etc of each area was very helpful. Although we did not completely follow the recommended days out they gave us inspiration on how to make the most of our short break. One warning - the number one cafe in the 'Around Parliament' district served extremely delicious cakes, but at extremely high prices!

For a first timer in Budapest this guide turned out to be really useful. The book is well written with lots of interesting photographs. It is is divided up into the different regions of Budapest and every page is full of facts and information. This series of guides is really good for initial visits to a new city. The suggested routes were well planned and we did follow several of them.

I bought this for a recent trip to Budapest. The guide contains detailed, yet concise information about the city, structured very well. The main attractions are grouped by types and by city districts.
