This is by no means a bad guide - it has the DK's usual excellent assortment of sights, restaurants, cafes, general travel info. However, it has no map for Montreal's metro system which is a obvious defect (despite being a fairly walkable city, being there for a short time and on a budget, I inevitably ended up using the underground trains).
the restaurant guide is excellent (having happily tried several of the recommendations) and the book covers all of the main sights.
Usefully, this is a small, andtherefire portable guide

I've used the DK city guides before for Prague, Paris and Brussels and found them easy to read and follow, fairly complete and pretty much up to date. However, I bought this one by mistake because it's not the same as those versions (my mistake, I didn't read the blurb properly).

This book is part of a series of shortened city guides which list the top 10 attractions in the city. For example it briefly describes the top 10 historical things to see, the top 10 family outings etc. For each of these attractions, there are some pictures and a short description but much less information than in the usual more complete guides. To be fair though, for Montreal, it was pretty good at spelling out the best sights to see.

So, if you've got 2-3 days in a city and you want a brief guide to the top must-see attractions, then this guide is fine and serves the purpose. However, if you are looking for more detailed information about the city, it's history, districts and useful background info I would look elsewhere.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not the best DK guide 16 Sep 2011
Format:Paperback
We are great fans of the DK Top Ten guides but this is the worst one. Bad layout confusing Quebec City and Montreal in one guide. Not clear which of the sights is in which city, no subway map. Maps are good the pull out extra useful if only they had put Quebec on one side and Montreal on the other.
Should have divided the book in two with one city in each half. Design is normally their strong point but failed on this one

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive guidebook 15 Nov 2009
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
My holiday to Canada was cancelled at the last minute, but I had studied this guidebook in detail and planned itinaries and pit stops. Whether the information provided is accurate I cannot say, but I found the format clear and the information very comprehensive and easy to handle. I am hanging on to the book until my trip is rescheduled!
