31 tracks in 61 minutes isn't usually my thing, yet this DJ Kicks CD has momentum and balance: moving from Black Secret Technology
-era darkness at the beginning, to the almost child-like simplicity of Scratcha Diva's "Jelly Roll", to more ragga-influenced tracks like "Move Down Low" by Grievous Angel.
There's a bit of an RnB-ish lull in the proceedings mid-album, but "normal" service is resumed around about track 21.
Along with 5 : Five Years Of Hyperdub
, this is as good a showcase of dubstep as I think you could hope to find - covering labels such as Werk Discs, Rush Hour and Hyperdub and artists including Ikonika, Digital Mystikz and The Bug. No Burial though, which might surprise some.
If this doesn't get you up on you on your feet at some point you are stone-cold dead - simple as that, I reckon. A must-buy. Cheered up this reviewer's Monday night no end.
