Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Erlend Oye, lead singer with Norwegian outfit Kings Of Convenience, likes to warble over tracks during his DJ sets. He also likes to tell stories. This, of course, making him an interesting choice for the latest instalment of the eclectic DJ Kicks series. No less than nine cuts here feature his vocal performances, three of which are unreleased records of his own, six of which are cover versions--everything from Opus 3 to Elvis and Morrissey to the Pet Shop Boys. The musical thrust of the compilation lies somewhere between 80s retro-clash rockers and quirky, rock-influenced classics, with tracks by Royksopp, the Rapture, Avenue D and Pheonix all providing more than enough atmospheric dancefloor business. Straddling the line between a DJ mix and a proper artist LP, it makes for a unique compilation that should appeal even to those who don't normally buy mix albums. --Paul Sullivan

Having bought and loved some of the previous offerings in the DJ Kicks series and being a big fan of Erlend Oye and Kings of Conveinence, I was expecting some downbeat electronica in the style of KOC's Versus album. Instead, we get a mixed bag of Electro, Deep House and more eclectic styles with Erlend Oye crooning a cappella vocals on top of them. It may sound incongruous and slightly odd but it works really well and is one of the contenders for album of the year. The choice of songs and vocals works really well and for somebody who confesses that he can't mix, he does a pretty good job.

If you like you music to be a little different from the norm and are a fan of any of his previous stuff, I would definitely recommend it.

Awesome 30 Mar 2005
Format:Audio CD
Being a big fan of Erlend Oye I bought this one day feeling quite excited about my new purchase. I wasn't disapointed, in fact it been played so many times my mate at work is gets grumpy when he hears the first track. It's a fantastic album especially "Poor Leno [Silicone Soul's Hypno House Dub]/There Is a Light That Never - Röyksopp" with Morrisey's lyrics told by Oye in his laid back manner.

If you like Royksopp, Oye or Kings of Convenience - buy it now!! You will thank me for it, and Erlend, if you read this - keep it up mate!

Having read NME's review of this album, which although praisworthy, only merited it 7 out of 10, i postponed buying this until yesterday. DON'T WAIT ANOTHER MINUTE, buy this album now !!! It really is top quality from the opening track to the very end. The tracks chosen, which are not written by Erland, or remixes of Kings of Convenience songs, are made his own by the layering of acappella vocals over the top. This is done brilliantly, and the vocals picked are enchanting, amusing and perfect for the backing tracks. It really does leave you begging for more. Blooming fantastic Erland, this deserves to be in everyones top 10 albums of the year.

Don't umm and arr any longer, purchase this album now, and then send me a thankyou note after !!!!
