The DIY Couture collection is 10 stylish, easy to make pieces of clothing that can be endlessly reinvented in different fabrics, textures and colours. Anyone who enjoys sewing and creating something unique will love using this book to make their own couture wardrobe. The book begins with a Useful Techniques section, followed by Collections: inspirational photographs of the pieces styled different ways. Next, each of the 10 garments, from a Goddess dress to a cool romper suit and hoody, is clearly explained, including a spread showing all the variations (e.g. fastenings, necklines and hems) possible for each garment. Finally, clear step by step illustrations and photographs show you how each piece is made. With no complex sewing patterns, even beginners at sewing can make their own beautiful clothes. With simple, visual instructions and cool styling, DIY Couture will inspire people to join the handmade revolution. Where eco-fashion meets street style, this is the antithesis of fast-fashion. Absolutely no patterns required!

5.0 out of 5 stars Really creative and clever =) 27 May 2012

I absolutely loved this book! This book has a really neat and easy to understand layout that follows the author's appraoch to sewing - a visual activity needs visual understanding. The first section goes through basic sewing techniques and the equipment that you will need throughout the book. Again, these sewing instructions are very easy to understand and the book uses both visual and literary explanations throughout.

The second and main section goes through the garment construction. There is a lot of inspiration from this book as the reader gets to see the author's interpretations of her garments, which can then be transferred to your own garments when planning what to sew. The pretty interesting part of this book I found were the techniques used. The book says 'no patterns required' and that is absolutely true! All you really need are some of your own clothes and a measuring tape.

I think this book is perfect for anyone who is interested in sewing. If you are a beginner, this is an ingenious book which will start you off at the basics and even if you're more advanced, it's pretty inspirational.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant! Inspiring! Buy this book! 16 July 2012

I have a sewing machine but have no technical training at all but had a desire to make an item of clothing. Well. The book appealed to me as it is directed at the lay person with no technical terms or phrases just a very straightforward guide. I have so far made a dress from this book. It was fun! Very easy with very straightforward instructions. A bit of time and paitience is all that is needed. It took 2 days to fully complete my dress and I'm so pleased with it. It has taught me that ANYONE can sew and make something. Really well. A great book! Highly reccomended.

This book consists of 10 stylish, easy to make items of clothing that can be continuously reinvented using different fabric, textures and colours to create a wide variety of unique garments. The book is crammed full of great illustration & photo based instructions, which is great for those like me who work better with visual directions. I love one of the key messages of the book "don't worry too much about the details" meaning that you don't have to be a perfectionist to make great unique items of clothing. This is sewing the DIY way.

I've studied `proper' pattern cutting and hated it, too much maths, fuss and fiddling! So was a tad nervous when I saw the big yellow `No Patterns Needed' sticker on the front. However, I'm very pleased to say that this book involved no pattern cutting, just garments you already own being used as templates. As you make our own patterns it means that every size and shape can be catered for this book.

I love the fact that the 10 garments are each made as part of 8 different collections, each giving them a different look showing just how versatile they are. These cover everything from a simple straight skirt and waistcoat through to the more complex hoody and romper suit. Looking forward to giving the cloak a go myself with some lovely Welsh wool I have in my stash.
