Product Description

Long recording time - record audio / video using a first-in, first-out loop for over 40 minutes on supplied 2GB SD card Built-in G-sensor with adjustable sensitivity - detects sudden acceleration, deceleration or impacts Emergency record button on side of main unit - files saved using this method are not over-written Easy to install - attaches to rear-view mirror or dashboard via supplied bracket or adhesive mount Suitable for cars or trucks - DC 12-24V power adaptor supplied Saves recorded data for between 1 and 3 minutes (adjustable) before and 1 minute (fixed) after event registered by G-sensor, which is not over-written in the event of a collision Unlike other in-car recording systems, the T-eye Drive Recorder is used to record both video and audio data in a continuous loop fashion. If the vehicle is involved in an accident such as a collision, impact, or sudden acceleration-related incident, this data is marked and stored. One may analyse the data to find its root cause by playing back the scenes of interest where acceleration, vehicle speed, direction, and location are available for review. The built-in GPS logger records speed, location and direction of travel, which can be played back with the video using the T-eye Player software that is supplied on the SD card. Data can be overlayed on to Google MapsTM for further review. A manual external trigger alarm is also supplied, which can be positioned in a suitable place in the vehicle to prompt emergency recording with a simple press of the button.

I got this as a birthday present, and at first I have to say I thought this may end up to be one of those products that is overhyped and full of would turn out to actually be a bit of a let down.

Its actually a very impresive product which actually does what it claims too and does it very well.

In the box you get the following items

1 x Camera Module, This contains both a forward facing wide angle camera and a rear facing camera, the rear facing camera also has night vision.

1 x Rear View Mirror Mount, this fixes to the rear view mirror and clamps around it, the camera it then fixed to this, this is more for a temparary fixing.

1 x Stick on Camera Mount, this fixes to the front window and provides the tidyest option of installation, you also get a spare sticky pad incase you change vehicles or mess up the first installation.

1 x 2Gb SD Card, the unit will support up to 16Gb for longer recording.

1 x Remote Save button, when pressed this ensures the footage is saved to memory card and will not be overwritten.

1 x Power Cable, with cigar lighter Plug , shame that a hardwire kit is not included, but you can always hide this somewhere behind the dash and hardwire a extra 12v socket, thats what I did, its also worth mentioning that the remove save button also have to plug into the cigar plug.

1 x Intruction CDROM, no paper manual supplied.

1 x IR Illuminator, this is to ensure that the night time recording from inside the car is good when dark.

So what does is do, well firstly the camera unit itself also includes a GPS Sensor, so that you speed and exact location are recorded onto the unit along with the front and rear facing video, the unit also include records G-Force so any impact is also recorded. When you play back the video files using the software on the SD Card all this information is also played back, it also works in conjuction with google maps and show your progress as it plays back the footage. In the event that the sensor detects some kind of impact the preceeding footage to stored to SD Card and never overwritten, this also happens if you press the remote button, or the Memory button on the unit itself. The unit also has an LED display which show your speed while you are moving and the time while you are stationary.

I am very impressed with the quality of the video footage, both cameras are very wide angle, so catch more than you would imagine, for example the rear facing camera records the entire inside of the car and can also see out of all the windows incase your shunted from the side or the rear.

Overall a very good product, I did have to download a firware update for the unit from the manufacturer as the MPH speed reported was quite inacurate, but the update fixed this problem, updates are a simple case of removing the SD card and copying the update files to the card then putting the card back in the unit.

I hope I never have to use it but it nice to know I have a witness with me at all times if needed.

What a great piece of kit!!! I had it up and running within 1 hour. The hardest part is deciding where to run the cables.....

So, What is it you ask............?

This is a stand alone unit that records (with sound if you choose) your driving habits, such as speed, acceleration, cornering etc. There are 2 cameras, 1 forward facing and 1 rear facing. The rear facing camera basically video's the inside of your car as it is a wide angle lens. There is an additional Infra Red unit that works with the rear camera; this is to enable a good quality recording in night time or low light conditions. Inside the unit, there is a GPS unit which records your exact location and a 3 way Gyroscope (forward / backwards, left / right and up / down) . This is displayed as a line graph in the player when you review your recordings. Additional to this is an LCD display which shows your current speed (displays current time when you're not moving), again the speed is displayed in the player as a "speedometer" style application.

Everything comes in the box that you will need and if you want a larger SD card, you can download the software from the website to your new SD card, this is a great idea as you could keep a catalogue of any incidents without the risk of overwriting it.

Using the device.

Once installed, I downloaded the latest firmware from the manufacturer's website, which is recommended to do so in the instructions, I was ready to go. The start up time (performing its own self checks) is about 10-15 seconds once power is supplied through the cigarette lighter. Listen for the chimes and once the display says "hello and GPS fine" then you are ready to go.

I drove my car round the local streets to test it and the sound and video quality is very good (I have it on the high quality setting). Reg numbers, other vehicles, landmarks and roads are clearly visible. The inside view from the rear facing camera is also very good. When you are doing the playback, the interaction between Google maps is a big help.

The GPS is (I'd say) is about 95% accurate as the interactive map showed my location just to one side of the road but I assume it will be better on long runs (motorways, A road's etc.)

The player is easy to use and displays all the current info you will need. The added bonus is you can save the files as .AVI format so you can play them on your own media player or e mail the evidence to your insurance company should the worst happen......

You can leave the unit recording all the time and if the Gyroscopes detect an impact or you hit the emergency button (on the unit or the additional wired button located where you choose), then it will protect that "time frame" (up to 3 minutes). Even if you have an "uneventful journey" with no mishaps, you can still view the recordings. This is an added bonus as if you witness an accident, you can hit the emergency button and the evidence is saved. Imagine how helpful it would be if you had an accident that you know wasn't your fault and a fellow motorist had video evidence to prove your innocence.......

I thoroughly recommend this product (much better than the single camera units as you get an inside and an outside view) to all those who drive for a living (HGV, taxi's, Rep's etc.). The unit is very easily interchangeable between vehicles (dependant on how you run the wires).

Overall Review

9.5/10 (I can't give it 10/10 as nobody is 100% sure if insurance companies will admit this as evidence, but its worth having it there just in case)

I feel, just by having this in the car will make me a safer and more aware driver as I now know that I am being filmed as well as other road users.

As for buying it off Amazon, I can't fault it. I did a lot of research and price checking for this and Amazon was on of the cheapest, although it appears Amazon is a "re-seller" of this product, you do get the satisfaction that it isn't a fly by night company that won't be there in 3 months time if it goes faulty.

The delivery time was excellent, I ordered the unit very late on Friday night and it was delivered Tuesday......Excellent

You can leave the unit recording all the time and if the Gyroscopes detect an impact or you hit the emergency button (on the unit or the additional wired button

If your still unsure, have a look on youtube (for example) and search for T-Eye, you can see the quality if the videos and the player for yourself

I had initial problems with the T-eye, relating to the SD card. The supplier quickly and helpfully sorted these for me and I'm now up and running. The map feed during playback is impressive. When I e-mail a video though, I only get pictures from the front and rear cameras, not the full functions you see on u-tube and I haven't yet figured out why, though in the event of an accident, I'm sure my insurance company would be quite happy to have the front and rear videos.
