Dimsie makes up her mind that only one person is right for the job of School Captain. Not many of Dimsie's friends are in agreement with her choice. In fact the girl selected is also very reluctant to take on the responsibilities. Somehow Dimsie's thoughts also chime in very well with those of her headmistress.
Meanwhile there are plenty of other students who are going to gain the benefit of being one of Dimsie's special projects. Music is at the centre of the plot and, though important as usual, games are relegated to the sidelines as the story moves towards its climax.
Fenella's self obsession is not a healthy one and she succeeds in trying to patronise all around her. A robbery that need never have happened leads to a night afloat in the mist. The cold light of day brings for a change in attitude.
