This book is an easy read and gives you a deep understanding of treasure baskets and heuristic play.It clearly explains the reasons behind why these experiences are essential for young children. Lots of practical ideas for inexpensive resources so you can easily get started!

Hugues has huge experience of 28 years as educational psychologists and worked together with Elinor Goldschmied - pioneer of treasure baskets, heuristic play and key person system. The book contain great amount of well structured and interesting information (historic background, case studies, content of treasure basket and how to offer it, importance of role play etc.) Useful book for EYFS teachers as well as for parents.

I hesitated to spend money on this book and now know that it is not only a fun and smart approach to thinking about supporting the play of your child but also an absolute money saver. Sick of stacks of plastic toys and stuffed animals? Ditch all but one or two of each *texture* and then add as many objects of as many varying textures as possible. Anxious about safety? This book has something to say to you--and will help you not transfer your anxiety to your child. A smart book about playing for parents concerned with exploration, learning, and non-consumerist play. Great to read cover to cover or to leaf through. Full of ideas, examples, photos, and possible play object lists. We started introducing new objects as textures within minutes of opening this little book. My daughter is busy examining a cork pad at this very moment. Well worth the money!
