The Devil in the Details was filled with action and the sweeter side of romance. After stricking out lately with PNRs, I am thrilled to read one that is so well constructed AND entertaining to read. Such an enjoyable story that is very well written, has great likable and quirky characters, "plausible" action, humor, and romance.
Stella has seen running from a traumatic past. Once her aunt dies she is forced back to her home town to deal with the pain and betrayal. Zane is an immortal with a calling from God to protect the innocent from evil. He is spiritually sent to help Stella. Stella doesn't know it yet but she has a special gift...one that God wants to protect and one that a very scary demon wants to own.
I really don't have anything negative to say about this book...I ate it up in less than two days. I thought the writing smart and witty with some humor, the characters refreshing, fun and original, and the plot well developed. I thought that the action scenes were really well done (and as believable as it can be in a paranormal romance....let's be realistic here). Zane was not painted as this perfect warrior, but a man who is tired of fighting after 2000 years but knows that Stella is to be protected at all costs. He is the imperfect hero that you will find perfect.
The romance is sweet and smartly done and a nice change. I guess some disclaimers: This is Not a bodice ripper and has very little sex and more sexual tension. So if you are looking for something steamy, take a pass on this one. Personnally it was a nice change, sometimes the sex in romances don't make sense when they did get together. This book made it work. Oh and even though this is about heaven and hell, good and evil, it is not preachy and has a great balance.
I recommend it to romance readers who like a little action.
