Excellent power metal album with pomp rock overtones,
By A Customer
This review is from: Destiny (Audio CD)
A power metal band from Finland who've been recording since 1989 and have featured on numerous compilations and tributes to Judas Priest and Dio.Sounding like a blend of Helloween with a hint of Manowar and with Rainbow as one of their major influences, the band are masters at mixing pomp & power metal with Nordic overtones. The comparisons with Helloween are justified with many facets of that band's musical style obvious here, particularly speed metal with melodic high pitched vocals & intrumental breaks ('No Turning Back' and parts of 'Destiny'). Favouring elaborate production (featuring choirs, harpsichords and strings) and keyboards, there is enough originality (though barely at times!) to stop them just being another Helloween sound-alike. Highly Recommended, especially for Helloween fans. Highlights: the lengthy title track - a work of epic sounding proportions with different paced phases ranging from the choirboys in the introduction, speed power metal to power ballad; the power metal rocker and single 'SOS' (with yet more choirboys!); the outstanding (and epic sounding) power metal ballad '4000 Rainy Nights'; the power ballad 'Years Go By' with string section accompanyment; the metal rocker 'Playing With Fire' with a chorus that wouldn't be out of place on a AOR song!; the metal power ballad 'Venus..' featuring more strings; the excellent 'Anthem Of The World' featuring different paced sections ranging from the anthemic string section enhanced riff & choirs to speed power metal.

Destiny - A piece of PERFECTION,
By Markos Efstathiou "m@rK" (Limassol, CYPRUS) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Destiny (Audio CD)
This has to be the best album from Stratovarius. Full of beautifull chorus, powerfull double-bass drumming, keyboards by the master Jens Johansson and stunning guitar riffs. Starts with the 10minute, epic self-titled song, wich has excellent choirs, lyrics, keyboards and changes from speedy riff metal to operatic ballad on the last 4-5 minutes. Other highlights include ofcourse S.O.S., the powerfull No Turning Back, the ballad 4000Rainy Nights and my personal favourite 'Anthem of the World' which has a beautiful sing-along chorus that will stuck on your head for daaays..... Sing the Anthem of the World, But will we ever learn, To control our hate and to forgiiiiiive. PERFECTION

KILLA POWER METAL EPIC!,
This review is from: DESTINY (Audio CD)
This cd starts of with a bang!the title track sounds like something from a church choir, until it kicks in!,then its over 9 minutes of awesome metal(i would class this songs as the bands all time classic!)This cd is a bit heavier than the cds "INFINITE" and "VISIONS",but it stillhas the mellower tracks like"SOS" AND "4000 RAINY NIGHTS" the song "ANTHEM OF THE WORLD" is 1 song that sticks in your head, for minths and you hear it over and over again!the usual ballads are also included such as "COLD WINTER NIGHTS" AND "YEARS GO BY" and although at the first listen this cd doesnt seem as if its that great, after about 4-5 listens it will never be out your cd player, this is a great cd for supporters of the band, and also for the guitar lover,as timo really plays it big time here!a must for your cd collection!
