This stand is easily assembled by slotting the disk shaped tiers onto the plastic columns. Holes are cut to size so that it all pushes together snugly and once constructed it is surprisingly sturdy. There is a bit of wobble to it if you give it a shake but considering the height when all 7 tiers are together, it's fairly solid. Once it has some weight on it when laden with cakes, it feels even more secure and I don't doubt that this will handle them well, though as it is very light - you need to make sure it doesn't get too top heavy - it won't fall over, but you never want to take that risk. If you want a cake stand with less capacity then you can have as many layers as you want, you don't start from the bottom level.
A couple of the platforms have slightly rough edges where it has been cut from sheets of acrylic, however they aren't an eyesore and once it's all together you can barely notice them. I find the transparent look very appealing and it looks very neutral which means it will go with any colour scheme. I've seen similar stands with fancy shapes cut into them and elaborate columns, this is a minimalistic looking stand which gives it a very modern appearance - but again, being so neutral means that it won't look out of place with more traditional or vintage cakes.
In a nutshell: This is great if you want a cake stand which can be simply stored away on top of a cupboard (it's only a few centimetres high when boxed) and is a perfect solution for occasional use. This isn't a permanent solution for those wanting to regularly display - but this is perfect for travelling to events where it can be quickly assembled and hold a good number of cakes.
