What I enjoyed most about James A. Anderson's book was the way he had several stories taking place at the same time, in different parts of the world, and kept weaving them together as he built to the end of the story. A serial murderer, an abduction and terrorist situation, a business crisis, a budding romance, political drama, and a father/daughter love all intertwined into a face-paced few days time.

It is all about the DEADLINE. In the competitive newspaper business, the deadline is king. Without hitting your deadline, your paper is dead. You are not given a do-over. You can't wait an hour for the story of the century to come in. If you do, your competitors with cut your throat...so to speak. In this detailed story about the Toronto newspaper world, the reader begins to understand what it is like to work in that industry, and feel the dangers journalists encounter everyday. An interesting, informative read.

Cannot believe this is a debut novel. The story-lines all kept me going without "losing the plot".
It is lovely to read a book that doesn't treat you like an idiot, taking you from A to C via B. Much better to go all over the place and catch the sights while you are travelling!
This author is down on my list to purchase his next book....Where is it??

Deadline is a story of 4 characters from 'The Daily Express' on a hunt for a serial killer as professional and personal deadlines are brought in to play.

I liked the plot of the book, it was fast-paced and very inter-mixed, the story jumps around from character to character, situation to situation and location to location but always with the reality that they would come together and become linked in the end which they did. The 4 main characters were well developed and the narrative was interesting.
This is James A Anderson's first novel but that does not excuse the author from the truly terrible dialogue throughout the book. Characters which are described well in narrative come across as 2 dimensional and extremely wooden when they open their mouths with all of the flair of the different characters disappearing into the same stilted language. This is such a shame because the plot is well written (if a little far-fetched at times as displayed in the review below) and the premise is very good - if more work is put into the dialogue then I am sure that his next book he will be a force to be reckoned with!

Overall an good read let down by its bad writing - still recommended though.
