Product Description

THE NEXT GENERATION OF ELECTRIC GUITAR STRINGS ARE HERE. THE REST ARE HISTORY.

D’Addario NYXL guitar strings will bend further, sing louder, and stay in tune better than any string you’ve played before. Envisioned, perfected, and manufactured by D’Addario in New York, this newly engineered, break-resistant, high-carbon steel core and plain steel alloy delivers a whole new level of freedom, confidence, and power. NYXL’s provide more strength and 131% greater tuning stability by utilising a completely reinvented wire drawing process coupled with a revolutionary “fusion twist” process for the plain steels. The reformulated nickel plated string windings have greater magnetic properties resulting in higher output and enhanced mid-range frequency response for more presence and crunch.

Torture Tested
Torture tests prove NYXLs stay in tune 131% better. Don't waste time tuning, start playing sooner.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice strings, but a tad expensive. 14 Jun 2014
By Mark Philpott VINE VOICE

The packaging is very smart (although, to my eyes, looking slightly like an up market pack of condoms) for starters.

The strings themselves don't seem radically different from other strings I've tried before. They sound nice and bright when first put on, but then new strings always do. They also hold their tune (after a bit of stretching) well but this is often more down to the guitar than strings.

A week on and they still look clean and are in tune.

So, all in all, these do their job well, so good marks for that but, at 13 a pack, I'm not convinced they are particularly superior to strings of approximately half the price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a quantum leap over other strings, but OK 30 May 2014

I'm not sure the stats quoted by the manufacturer are in any way meaningful, but the strings feel decent quality and, to date, have held tune adequately. The price is OK and the packaging has a quality air, but this is a very crowded marketplace and so far I've seen nothing to make these strings stand out from the crowd.

5.0 out of 5 stars Give a bright sound , feel quality 25 May 2014

The chance to try these strings came along at the ideal time as the Ernie Ball strings of the same gauge on my PRS had become very worn and were badly in need of a change. I was planning to change to a new set of EB's but this was the ideal time to try something new.

I'm not an expert when it comes to my guitars , a casual player who's only played for 5 years and I play Acoustic far more but I certainly noticed the difference between these and the ones they replaced immediately. The sounds is rich and the strings seem to require little retuning even though they are new and they feel strong. Certainly a worthy alternative to Ernie Balls for me and well worth giving them a go.

These have been on my Gibson Les Paul for a week now and show no signs of dulling. They have a great, bright sound and I do play guitar a lot at home. The light gauge guitar strings are a pleasure to play, as opposed to the tow ropes I have on my basses.

These strings are in the upper mid-range, price-wise but do represent very good value for money when bought from amazon (or a couple of their partner sellers), so I can happily recommend that you try them if you haven't already. Neat packaging makes them a nice gift.

The poackage quote: "D’Addario NYXL guitar strings will bend further, sing louder, and stay in tune better than any string you’ve played before."

I do have to say these strings are nice and comfortable, seem hard-wearing and durable as strings go. Always wipe your strings down properly after playing for a longer life.

5.0 out of 5 stars a pleasure to pluck 29 May 2014
By L. Hennessy TOP 500 REVIEWER
Style Name:NYXL1046|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I'm really impressed with these strings, from the colour-coded ends (so that you don't get them mixed up), to the 'tight' sound they produce. I'm not that much of a serious musician, so my ears aren't tuned in the the differences between different strings, but they sound lovely and new at the moment - time will tell how long that lasts, but 'so far, so good'.

I strung them onto a Jackson Charvel - the bass string was slightly wider than the previous one, and I had to make adjustments with an allen key to get it to fit through the metal bar at the top of the neck, but I suspect that I might be the only one to have that kind of problem.

Really nice strings so far - I have high hopes that they'll last longer than the usual ones :)

Edit 16-08-14: Second impressions confirm the optimistic nature of the initial ones: the strings stay in tune really well; they seem to be easier to tune, as well - the strings never drop unpredictably when twisting the pegs, and feel very stable. They're a pleasure to pluck..

N.B. This product was reviewed by my father

"I have been using standard D'Addario XL guitar strings for years; I tried lots of different brands, but when I discovered D'Addario, I stopped looking any further, so I don't need any convincing about the manufacturer.

"These new XL NY strings are claimed to have 'more punch, crunch, and bite', 'bend farther', 'sing louder' and 'stay in tune' better than any others. I tried a set of 10/46 strings, the same gauge as I normally use, so this should be a close like-for-like comparison.

"(The guitar was a Fret-King Corona GW, which if you aren't familiar with it, is basically a Stratocaster style, and in my view a really excellent and versatile guitar.)"

'MORE PUNCH, CRUNCH, AND BITE?'

"Yes (maybe). They probably are a little brighter/punchier than the standard XL's, but any new set generally sounds brighter, and I wouldn't say there is a world of difference in tone, particularly when one tweak of a tone control can change the sound so much (and sometimes you actually do want it a bit more mellow). Will they stay brighter for longer? Can't say at this stage. But the sound is great, whether or not it is actually all that different from the standard XL's."

'SING LOUDER?'

"Well, they certainly ring out nice and crisp and clear, just like the standard XL's. Louder? Not so you would notice. They are as loud as you would expect any nice, new set of strings to sound. I think this claim is either a) more along the lines of a general statement that they 'sound very good' (which is true), or b) intended to appeal to those guitarists who think you can never, ever be loud enough, no matter what amplifier you have (which is not true)."

'STAY IN TUNE BETTER?

Decent quality strings. I've not really used them long enough to give a fair review. Quite a nice tone and light enough.
