Product Description

D'Addario EJ43 Classical Guitar strings, Pro Arte, Light Tension.

Manufacturer's Description

Pro-Arte strings are our the world's best selling and D'Addario's premium classical guitar strings. All Pro-Arte treble strings are sorted by a sophisticated computer-controlled laser machine which performs diameter/tension measurements and quality checks, insuring true sounding, precise trebles in every set. Pro-Arte basses are wound using silverplated copper on a multi-filament nylon core for consistent, warm-yet-projecting tone.

Silver on Nylon Explained
Bare round copper wire is electroplated with pure sterling silver and wound on multifilament nylon.

Pro-Arte Clear Nylon Explained
The monofilament nylon used for all D'Addario Pro-Arte treble strings is an exclusive, slow-extruded nylon that has harder and denser properties than conventional nylons. Each string is passed through laser inspection where approximitely 200 measurements are taken along the length of the string. The data is compared and averaged by a high-speed computer process and the strings are sorted by tension. Strings that do not meet the tolerance specifications in any one of their measurements are rejected. This ensures consistent string tensions and virtually perfect intonnation from every Pro-Arte string.

When do I change my strings?
Don’t wait until they break! The frequency you should change strings depends on how often you play, how you play, and in what conditions your instrument is played and stored. Active performers may need to change their strings on a weekly basis or even more often if they suffer from acidic perspiration. Occasional players may take months to wear out a set. Most players change strings when they lose their brilliance, sound too mellow, when intonation falters or when their instrument is difficult to keep in tune. Changing one string after it breaks is not recommended as the newer string will be brighter-sounding than the rest of the set.

How can I clean my strings?
Hand perspiration and dirt build-up are the main culprits that shorten string longevity. Wipe strings down with a clean cloth after each session. For those of you with more acidic perspiration, wipe strings down with Planet Waves String Cleaner.

Which string set is for me?
Whether choosing electric, acoustic, classical or other strings, the right string tension for your style is a matter of trial and error and is of utmost importance. Experimenting with different tensions can bring out a completely different character and sound of your instrument and in the style of your play. You should not assume that the string tension the guitar manufacturer selected at the factory is the right tension for you.

Custom blending of light and medium sets or extra light and light sets is also an option. For example the EXL140 set combines the trebles of a regular light electric set with the basses of a jazz EJ21 set. This allows easy bending of treble strings with the heftier bass response of the heavier EJ21 strings.

Light gauge strings are the most popular and are recommended by most makers. Lighter overall string tension ensures longer soundboard and neck life. Heavier tensions are not recommended for guitars built with fragile tops. Medium gauge strings offer more projection on heavier built instruments.

Classical sets are gauged in light, normal, hard and extra hard tensions. Although the total pull of classical strings is much less than their steel string counterparts, the string height is set higher on classical guitars. This fact makes the tension difference critical.

From the Manufacturer

D'Addario Pro-Arte Classical Guitar Strings

The Pro-Arte series are a worldwide best-selling nylon string set for classical guitar. Combining high quality materials with the unparalleled manufacturing consistency of D'Addario, Pro-Arte strings provide every player with the balanced performance they are seeking.

Detailed Design

Nylon strings require a whole different level of quality inspection to assure that each set and each string is made with precision. With this in mind, each nylon treble within a Pro-Arte set is laser measured to calculate diameter and tension levels to deliver pure intonation and tonality every time.

Core Elements

The other unique aspect of the Pro-Arte construction is the use of a silverplated copper winding on a proprietary multi-filament nylon core to create the basses. The use of the multi-filament core allows the Pro-Arte basses to blend warmth and projection perfectly into one set.

Pro-Arte Features

  • Laser measured clear nylon treble strings for consistent, precise intonation
  • Precision wound basses for warm, projecting tone and the utmost consistency
  • Made in the U.S.A. for the highest quality and performance
  • Available in an EXP coated option for 4 times the life span per set
  • Available in a Composite option for greater projection
  • Available in a Dynacore option for greater flexibility and responsiveness
  • Available in a Lightly Polished option for reduced finger noise

Overall a good set of guitar strings. I'm an amateur guitarist with about 2-3 years experience and I would recommend these to anyone who is either a beginner or an intermediate player. They last a decent length of time and sound really quite good! I'm sure the advanced/expert players may have other strings they favour, but if you're looking for good value, reliable and excellent sounding classical guitar strings, then look no further! =)

I have been playing with D'Addario strings for almost 20 years. In my humble opinion, I think they are the best when it comes to nylon strings. For my Godin Multiac Nylon, I use Hard Tension Pro Arte strings and for my other classical guitars (e.g. Washburn), I use normal tension Pro Arte.

Tried cheap ones in total ignorance of the difference - do not be tempted - you get what you pay for - now have Pro Arte and the tone and resonance is superb. Still play like a Wally but it does sound better!

I've been using D'Addario classical guitar strings regularly for a couple of decades, so I can't pretend now to be familiar with the competition. But I've stuck with them for the following reasons:

• They're extremely reliable — I can't remember the last time I had a dud string.
• Their sound is excellent and they last a long time.
• They settle in extremely quickly (this is a biggie for a professional musician).
• They have eco-friendly packaging.

I use the the J46s on my flamenco guitar, and on one of my classical guitars that has a low action (J45s on the other one). Every guitar and every guitarist is different, so try different tensions before you settle on one.

D'Addario are used by a long list of top professionals that you can probably find by looking at their publicity; Paco Peña was the one that influenced me in the first instance.

I remain very happy with the decision.

P.S. If you'd like to see more extended discussions and comparisons, go to the foroflamenco website and type the name of the strings you're interested in into the search box. The forum contains a decade-worth of discussions.

Nice, very nice. Just strung my guitar up and it sounds very sweet. These strings have a lovely tone. I have tried many types before but shall stick with D'Addario from now on.

I have a mid range guitar and had previously purchased strings from my local store. I was never that happy with them, so decided this time to buy D'Addario. My guitar is now produced the sharpness and clarity of sound that I always expected of it, and will now most likely change to these strings on my other guitars. Highly recommended.

I have experimented with various classical guitar strings over the years and with all guages, most of the lighter guages I find just flap around and don't deliver a really nice crisp tone. These are by far my favourites to play as they are top quality and produce an excellent tone. If you have only ever played classical guitar and lighter strings, these may take some getting used to to build up strength. However, if you have played acoustic guitar then these will pose no problem at all. I highly recommednd these strings!

Overall these strings are a quality product, the price is low compared to most retailers and you can't really go wrong with D'Addario.

I currently use these strings on a borrowed 20 yr old Spanish classical guitar just while I get to grips with the basics until buying a steel string. The guitar itself is not a beauty but these strings make it sound like one with fantastic resonance and ability to hold a note perfectly.

The difference in sound quality when I changed the strings over to these was unbelievable.
____

After using these strings for the past few months, I felt like I need to further add as to how pleased I am with this product. They sound fantastic and hold a note perfectly well when compared to a professional grade string at double this value.
