Product Description

Product Description

D'Addario Phosphor Bronze Acoustic Guitar strings are acclaimed worldwide for their superb, long-lasting tone. Phosphor Bronze was introduced to string making by D'Addario in 1974 and has become synonymous with warm, bright, and well balanced acoustic tone. D'Addario's most popular acoustic guitar strings.

D'Addario 3-Packs, or "3-D Sets" are complete sets in one box, conveniently packaged and individually sealed in a Corrosion Intercept Bag, making each set as fresh as the day it was made. Muliple packs offer a saving over buying sets individually.

Phosphor Bronze Explained
Introduced to string making by D'Addario, phosphor bronze strings last longer than conventional bronze alloy strings. The small percentage of phosphorous in the alloy helps them retain their sound longer.

Plain Steel Explained
A high carbon steel alloy wire that is round in cross section. Used for plain steel strings.

When do I change my strings?
Don’t wait until they break! The frequency you should change strings depends on how often you play, how you play, and in what conditions your instrument is played and stored. Active performers may need to change their strings on a weekly basis or even more often if they suffer from acidic perspiration. Occasional players may take months to wear out a set. Most players change strings when they lose their brilliance, sound too mellow, when intonation falters or when their instrument is difficult to keep in tune. Changing one string after it breaks is not recommended as the newer string will be brighter-sounding than the rest of the set.

How can I clean my strings?
Hand perspiration and dirt build-up are the main culprits that shorten string longevity. Wipe strings down with a clean cloth after each session. For those of you with more acidic perspiration, wipe strings down with Planet Waves String Cleaner.

Which string set is for me?
Whether choosing electric, acoustic, classical or other strings, the right string tension for your style is a matter of trial and error and is of utmost importance. Experimenting with different tensions can bring out a completely different character and sound of your instrument and in the style of your play. You should not assume that the string tension the guitar manufacturer selected at the factory is the right tension for you.

Custom blending of light and medium sets or extra light and light sets is also an option. For example the EXL140 set combines the trebles of a regular light electric set with the basses of a jazz EJ21 set. This allows easy bending of treble strings with the heftier bass response of the heavier EJ21 strings.

Light gauge strings are the most popular and are recommended by most makers. Lighter overall string tension ensures longer soundboard and neck life. Heavier tensions are not recommended for guitars built with fragile tops. Medium gauge strings offer more projection on heavier built instruments.

Classical sets are gauged in light, normal, hard and extra hard tensions. Although the total pull of classical strings is much less than their steel string counterparts, the string height is set higher on classical guitars. This fact makes the tension difference critical.

5.0 out of 5 stars guitar strings acoustic 10 Mar 2010
Style Name:Extra Light|Size Name:Single Set
I have been buying these strings for years they are light hardly ever break and they are a great sound. I have tried other makes of strings but they don't compare. Problem is with lighter strings the sound quality is usually not as good as harder ones but these are a good balance and a really good sound. A famous musician recommended them to me in a music store so who am I to argue.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent balance and clarity 10 Aug 2010
Style Name:Light|Size Name:Single Set
For conventional, non-coated strings, .012 Phosphor-Bronze D'Addarios have been my favourite for more than twenty years. You can also get them in 80-20 'bell tone', which is slightly brighter, but my experience was that these broke more quickly. In deciding which strings worked for me, I went through Martin, Ovation, Gibson, Fender, Guild and Earthwood (Ernie Ball). Aside from the question of tone, I found that the plain steel strings retained their tuning better than Gibsons, which have a tendency to go out of tune at the 12th fret, and that the wound strings last better than Earthwoods, which tended to get worn down by the frets more quickly. Martin, Ovation and Guild were all makes I continued to buy when I couldn't get D'Addarios, or couldn't afford them -- for many years they were the most expensive strings, although the price has dipped since the introduction of coated strings.

In addition to other advantages, D'Addarios are colour coded, which is not especially important when you first fit them, as you can easily gauge how heavy they are by squeezing them gently. When a string breaks, though, it makes it very easy to find the right string from the old strings you keep in your case (if you are wise -- old strings need no additional stretching and so can go straight back on the guitar and be played during the gig).

You should take all this with a huge pinch of salt, though -- the right string for you is the string that sounds right on your guitar with your style of playing.

Wow these have completely transformed my electro acoustic guitar. Not only do these strings sound fantastic but they are relatively easy on the fingers and the wallet. Great stuff I will be using these in future.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bright, rounded tone 8 Oct 2012
By Caz
Style Name:Light| Size Name:Single Set|Verified Purchase
What a steal these strings are! (Steal...steel...geddit?) The colour coding is a genius way of not getting the strings confused - as a blonde, ditzy stereotype, it can be mayhem!! I own a Hummingbird, and the bright tone worked beautifully with it.

Considering the cost, that quality of sound is absolutely superb!! The strings come looped together in one packet (hence the relief at the colour coded ends!) and I found no fault at all with the product. These are a great set of strings, quite suitable for the professional - of all the D'Addario offerings, this to me is the 5*. For fingerwork and barring, these did not cut into my fingers but still had that firmness. They are of course less thick than many other offerings, but for me lend themselves to picking and fingering in the higher frets. A wonderful buy, and a reliable brand.

A fabulous set of strings, what more can I say?!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Strings. 25 Jun 2009
Style Name:Light| Size Name:Single Set|Verified Purchase
I changed my acoustics strings as soon as these came through the post, and i was pleasantly surprised at the sound. It was clear that i had left my old strings in far-too-long. These strings have such a great sound, almost refreshing, and making your acoustic guitar sound brand new with a fuller, more grand tune.

- Easy to string.
- Easy code system.
- Good price.
- Great sound.

4.0 out of 5 stars Best value for a performance string out there 4 Jun 2010
Style Name:Custom Light| Size Name:Single Set|Verified Purchase
Dáddario phosphorous bronze are on the whole outstanding all round strings at the price point they come in at... perfect for beginners, intermediates who want a good quality, clear sounding, long lasting string. I use them on both a Tanglewood and Epiphone and they sound great on both (and satisfyingly a bit different given the shape of the guitars - one being a smaller folk style, "fingerpicky one"), so they really do complement the shape/quality of the guitar you put them on - Great for strumming or fingerpicking.

Yes you can get specialist strings for a very particular sound that will only be noticed by a select few listeners (e.g. flat tops, jazz strings etc) and higher quality general acoustic strings (e.g. Elixirs) but these come in at around 3x the price or more, and on balance dont justify the price difference. OVerall a great buy. I just ordered 2 sets from this seller and got them 2 days later. PErfect!

Arrived quickly. Strings are bright and clear, hold tuning well, a little loud when sliding from fret to fret but they're round wound, so that's expected.
