I am looking at purchasing my first DSLR, and I have seen really positive reviews of the D3200... Until now. Now I am thinking should I just save a few quid and buy the older but I guess more tried and tested D3100? There is some cracking deals out there. Please you loud lot, give me your thoughts! :) L

I've had a D3100 for just over a year now and I couldn't be happier with it.

I am in a similar state of purchase and now wonder between the Canon & Nikon or buying the D7000? Any thoughts by the experts?

"Another improvement on the D3200 over the D3100 is the addition of a 3.5mm microphone socket ready to support an external mic"

That's potentially a huge gain in soundtrack quality.

I have both a 3100 and 3200 - I prefer the 3200 and a big difference for me was the facility to be able to use the Nikon remote control, which you can't with the 3100 and have to use a cable release.

I also prefer the positioning of some of the buttons on the 3200 - but really there's not much in it and I have had similar results with both. I will often take both with me, fitted with different lenses to be ready for things that happen on widlife shoots. The lenses are much more of a noticable difference than the cameras!!
