This appeared to the one of the cheapest 4 bay NAS drives. I did compare with the similarly priced Netgear, but when I checked the various reviews on-line, the D-Link is reported to provide much better performance.

Good points:

- Not noisy in my study - where it's installed right next to my desk
- Performance seems to be good - I can stream music/high-def movies with no issues
- Control panel gives useful information (as does the management interface)
- Boot-up time from OFF state reasonable quick, boot-up from sleep is very quick (a lot faster than the other NAS server I have)

Bad points (well not really a bad point, but maybe a nagging concern):
- Does not seem to widely sold... D-Link's web site states that this is still a valid in production systems. However the last software update seems to be from a few years ago... although the device works without any issues, so maybe it does not need any software updates....

Arrived in a few days, perfectly packed.

Very easy to set up and it has plenty of functionalities. I managed quite easily to configure the backup with the mac using TimeMachine.
Only down side, the D-link set up utility crashes a couple of time on Mac, so I ended up set it up on Windows. Once done the web interface works fine with any OS.

Much faster and easier to set up than the cheaper Pulse range, worth the extra spend. Will take 4x4Tb drives (tested with Hitachi Deskstars)

OK If you are Linux buff looking for a storage box then this is probably OK. If you are a Windows user looking to initialise and maintain the DNS box with a few TB’s of data, buy something else. I was just wanted an effective NTFS Sata plug into the mother board hot swap box. Whilst the EXT4 files are Windows visible via Paragon or Linux-Reader, but copying to the DNS box via Network link is painfully (10MB/second) slow.
