5.0 out of 5 stars A good match to the DIR-655, 22 Jan 2008

This works faultlessly with the DIR-655 router I bought to go with my 20MegaBit connection. The ease at which I was downloading wirelessly at 2.5 megabyte/s from fast websites was impressive. I would advise getting adapters from the same manufacturer when considering wireless-N products to ensure compatability.

3.0 out of 5 stars It sticks out a long way but it gives excellent 300Mbps connection, 24 April 2009
By Keith Joseph (West Berkshire, England) - See all my reviews
(TOP 100 REVIEWER)
This 'little' wireless adapter is built to match our D-Link DSL2740B Wireless Draft Pre-N router. I disabled our laptops old internal Centrino wireless-g chip [using it's Intel wireless utility], loaded the D-Link software/drivers on the supplied CD. Fitted the adapter into the laptop [when told to do so, drivers must be installed first], and nothing - no networks found or anything. Quick trip to the PC's FSecure Antivirus control centre, unblocked the Network card, and then our wireless network appeared [after I clicked SCAN in the D-Link software]. I connected using the D-Link utility rather than Windows [I prefer it as works better with high encryption, offers more info, and the signal icon is cool]. Connected using WPA2 encryption and got 300Mbps instantly, and in the network cold spot I got an 'Excellent' signal. Works in the garden as well [the router is near the back of our Bungalow]. With a laptop it's easy to shuffle the case about for the best signal, but I've never needed to do so with this D-Link adapter card.

Mind you our old Wireless G Centrino card installed inside our 3 year old Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop always gave a reliable connection as well. That said connecting all your PCs by Wireless Pre-N will get the network working faster as the router doesn't have to keep switching wireless modes. Plus Wireless Draft Pre-N is 650% faster and far more reliable and responsive than wireless G [that won't affect internet speeds much, but it's great for fast large file transfers, or streaming video]. So overall a success, up and working in under half an hour. The only downside, and its a bit of a biggy, is that the card sticks out from the Cardbus II adapter slot by 1.5" and the card is 2" wide. Our slot is on the left side of the laptop and so it does interfere with the mouse a bit. Not a disaster if you use a small mouse, but it does mean you really have to remove the network card when you put the laptop into the carry bag [as it looks a bit prone to damage jutting out]. Plus the two bright orange connection LEDs are too bright [green would have looked far better co-ordinated with our laptop LEDs], and the D-Link logo is upside down to view when connected on the right side, which looks rather naff on a laptop otherwise oozing cool. The card is well built with a very solid metal base, which probably helps with cooling as the card runs quite hot [as do most laptop components]. So overall a very worthwhile upgrade for around thirty quid. Be warned though this adaptor is now no longer being manufactured [or to quote D-Link it's obsolete], so if you need one to match your D-Link router get one quickly.

4.0 out of 5 stars d-link wirless N card, 16 Jul 2009
By C. Lang (bedford, england) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Had initial only G speed, but reading manual found I needed to change router encryption to WPA to get high speed connection, now I get 300Mbps
and very good signal downstairs at opposite side of house from router.
