Product Description

Product Description

ADSL USB Modem for PC Users: the DSL-200 ADSL USB modem connects a PC to an ADSL line through a Universal Serial Bus (USB) interface. Offering users superior connectivity compared to traditional analog modems, this modem is designed to provide megabit access for interactive video, high-speed data communication and Internet access to residential users.

Up to 8Mbps Speed: this modem features a DMT full rate for downstream of up to 8 Mbps and upstream of up to 640 Kbps. G.lite rate for downstream is up to 1.5 Mbps and upstream is up to 512 Kbps, high enough for most Internet applications today. G.lite support eliminates the need to install a splitter at the residence. The modem auto-senses the installed rate and auto-negotiates between the full rate and G.lite.

Uses Existing Telephone Line: the ADSL modem operates on the existing installed twisted-pair copper telephone wire and does not require new transmission media such as fibre optic cable. ADSL enables high-speed multimedia services, Internet access and video conferencing for everyone using a standard, copper phone line.

No More Busy Signals: ADSL is always on once it is installed. There is no need to dial up to establish a connection to an ISP or to a corporate LAN.

No Shared Bandwidth: unlike traditional or cable modems, ADSL does not use cross-user shared bandwidth, a phenomenon which has a significant detrimental effect on the connection speed as more users get online. With ADSL, the entire bandwidth is dedicated to a single connection.

Maximum Utilisation of Resources: regular telephone services use a minimal portion of the actual capacity of the telephone lines, while ADSL uses the remaining bandwidth for high-speed data transfer. This utilisation is accomplished by setting different frequency channels for different functions, so that voice communication happens at the lower end of the frequency spectrum, while data transmission takes place at a higher frequency.

Increased Productivity: ADSL enables simultaneous use of voice and data transmission. It also lets users download lengthy documents and graphical files quickly.

USB Interface: this modem provides a plug-and-play USB interface with the host PC through a USB port. Many PCs today come with a USB ports. The modem connects to this USB interface through a provided USB cable.

Manufacturer's Description

This modem provides a plug-and-play interface with the host PC through a standard USB port. The modem features G.dmt modulation for speeds of up to 8 Mbps downstream and 640 Kbps upstream. G.lite is also supported, allowing up to 1.5 Mbps downstream and 512 Kbps upstream. G.lite is sufficient for most Internet applications today, and has the advantage of not requiring the installation of a splitter at the subscriber end. The modem auto-senses the connection type and auto-negotiates the best modulation scheme, G.dmt or G.lite using the G.hs (handshake) protocol.ADSL service, once installed, is always on. There is no need to dial the ISP or corporate LAN at the other end.Regular telephone service uses only a tiny portion of the actual capacity of a conventional telephone line, while ADSL uses the remaining bandwidth for high-speed data transfer. This is accomplished by setting different frequency channels for different functions, so that voice communication occurs at the lower end of the frequency spectrum, while data transmission takes place at higher frequencies.
