Manufacturer's Description

Wireless 4-port USB Print Server
The DPR-1260 wireless multifunction print server is a versatile multi-port print server ideal for home office, school or business use. Providing 4 USB ports for 4 USB printer connections, this device gives users the option of adding multiple printers, multifunction printers or scanners to the network. With simple configuration and high wireless network speeds, the DPR-1260 makes it easy to share multiple devices over the network and reduces the time required to send print jobs to the print server.

Multifunction Printer Sharing
Tested with a wide range of different printer models, the DPR-1260 offers a high level of compatibility. Printing a file on a network printer is seamless, and users can easily control the scanning of documents and photos directly from their computers. The multifunction printer's scanning function can be controlled over a wireless network. Users can share data through the memory card on the multifunction printer's slot, and print it through the same printer wirelessly. The DPR-1260 is compatible with a wide range of USB multifunction printers and scanners and is backward compatible with USB 1.1/1.0 printers.

High-Speed Wireless Connection and Expandability
The DPR-1260 offers wireless speeds of up to 108Mbps Turbo mode with any 108Mbps enabled device, and has an Ethernet port that can also serve as a wireless adapter. This provides wireless connectivity for any Ethernet enabled device, such as a computer, IP camera or Network Attached Storage (NAS) device.

Simultaneous Operation of Connected Printers
With 4 multifunction printer connections from a single device, the DPR-1260 is the perfect choice for environments where space or price is a concern. Equipped with a powerful CPU, large buffer size, high-speed USB ports and high-speed network data transfer, the DPR-1260 makes network operation fast. All shared devices attached to the DPR-1260 can print and scan at the same time, giving this multi-port print server a similar performance as 4 separate single-port print servers.

Network Security and Multiple O.S. Support
The DPR-1260 provides the necessary security for wireless users, using the user-selectable 64/128-bit industry-standard WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) data encryption and Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA-PSK, WPA-EAP). It supports many network OS, including Windows and Linux, giving users the flexibility to install the print server regardless of the network environment.

Once setup the features advertised are excelent. I previously owned a Linksys parallel port print server which once operational was ok - except the setup for that aswell as setting it up everytime a new pc came along was really a pain. Also like the Liksys it could only support 1 printer whereas the DPR-1260 can support up to 4.

Setup was a pain. This seems in common for all print servers for some reason, so in this respect the DPR-1260 is no better or worse than the others. I followed the quick install guide to the letter for XP. UPAP etc were active as per instyructions. Yet when i connected the ethernet cable to my pc it was impossible to find the server's webpage. Furthermore in My Network Places there was no sign of the server as the instructons said it should be.

Firstly i tried the mac code method into Internet Explorer - that didnt work. Then after reading reveiws i tried 192.168.0.10 and 192.168.1.10 - they didnt work. After getting nowhere i had no option but to plug the server into my ADSL Router, which incidently, NOWHERE in the instructions does it tell you to do! Anyhow this did the trick. I think i inputed 198.168.0.10 again, and low and behold the server page appeared. Maybe more experienced ppl would have done this first and saved a few hours heartache.

Once in, it was easy and all downhill. Wireless was setup fast, and as soon as i disconnected the ethernet cable, i had the Server associated and authorised on a WPA2. It recognised my 2 printers immediatly (HP1200 + a HP Photosmart) which was good because i couldn be bothered getting the discs out again :p

Aslong as u get it setup fast this product really will make you pleased - but remeber that if your not sure about pc's in general then do alot of info gathering before purchase on its setup - save the pages or print them out so that when it arrives you have all the info at hand and dont go crazy :)

DPR-1260 = 5/5

Good print server, let down by poor documentation of what to do if it does not work as explained in the simple web setup.
I had problems when I installed it using WEP encryption on my network. Support could not help me further until I had a brainwave and changed my network security settings to WPA(wifi-protected access), which is actually superior to WEP. I imagine it should work easily with unsecured network, though its unadvisable not to secure your network.
My advice is : Follow the detailed install guide, update the firmware, use WPA instead of WEP encryption, then it should hopefully be fine - Supo

I have been in the IT business for 18 years. I could not believe how good this print server was. Extremely easy and quick to setup. Recongnised my HP printer full model number etc the instant I plugged it into this router. The wireless setup was a doddle, even WAP security, no inital IP address required on the ethernet port. Two other good things about this print server is you can connect upto 4 devices, plus it has a detachable foot so you can stand on it's side as well to save space, quite compact in any event. Good range of LEDs on the front etc. I give this print server 10 stars out of 5

Nice bit of kit. Very easy setup with intuitive interface. Worked first time.

My only negative (hence 4 stars) is the pitifully small list of scanner devices supported. I naively did not check to see if my HP printer/scanner was supported... and it is not. Hence my scannner attachment is inaccesible. So if you want to do anything other than use it as a print server, check the manufacturer's web site to see if your scanner is supported.

Very happy with this product.
Setup was on reflection not that difficult with most of it being done automatically,
It detected two printers instantly, one an old epson laser printer connected via a parrallel to usb converter.
Works great.

There was one issue when adding a second laptop though with vista (though I doubt it is a vista issue)

Logging on to the servers page gave an error "os not supported"
and no printers listed. No mention of this in the book and resorted to phoning dlink. Long phone call, helpfull chap who happily spoke slower when I couldn't quite understand his accent but who could not sort the problem and offered to get someone to phone back.
this did happen over a week later when I was no longer on site and had fixed it anyway.

So if you get this error, open internet explorer, click tools, internet options, then click the advanced tab and then click restore defaults,
All works like a dream, Dlink if you are reading this, thanks...lol

ps. the points made about scanner support ; this device is intended to allow you to access printers wirlessly, perhaps in a different room even, so surely if you want to scan you need to be by the scanner to insert the page, therefore not having the scanner connected to it seems no problem to me. The only scanners I could find that are supported were multifunction printer / scanners.
