Product Description

D-Link DKVM-2KU 2-Port KVM Switch with USB Port and Built-in Cables

The DKVM-2KU 2-port mini KVM (Keyboard, Video and Mouse) switch kit is a cost effective kit for home and office users. This double function kit allows you to easily control 2 different PCs from a single set of keyboard, mouse, and VGA monitor, and to share a USB device with 2 PCs. It includes a 2-port KVM switch, a USB 2.0 port built into the switch, and 2 sets of built-in cables for ready connection to 2 PCs. The switch provides many easy-to-use features and is perfect for home and the small business.

Cost-effective for PC Users

If you have 2 PCs and need to use them at the same time, the DKVM-2KU saves you the money and space by allowing you to control your 2 computers from a set of keyboard, monitor and mouse. Or, you may have a better, bigger monitor and want to connect both PCs to it, the DKVM-2KU allows you to do this. 2 sets of cables are attached to the KVM switch ready for use, dispensing you of the need to prepare separate cables and connect them to the switch.

Versatile Functions

The DKVM-2KU utilizes advanced microprocessor emulation to intelligently manage each KVM port. This allows simultaneous boot-up of all attached PCs. Auto scan, audible feedback, and keyboard "Hot Keys"Make the DKVM-2KU simple to use and manage. There is also a control button located on the front panel that allows you to switch between the PCs.

Status Save and High Resolution Support

The DKVM-2KU supports VGA, SVGA, and MultiSync monitors at up to 2048 x 1536 resolution at 72Hz refresh rate. Support for Microsoft IntelliMouse is provided.

USB 2.0 Port to Share USB Devices

A USB 2.0 port is built into this KVM switch to allow connection to a USB-supported device or a USB hub. This allows you to share your USB printer, scanner, card reader or other devices among the 2 connected PCs. This USB port is also backward compatible with USB 1.1 devices. By connecting this USB port to a USB hub, you can also share more than 1 USB device with your 2 PCs. In the Auto Scan mode, the USB device switching will come with the computer scan sequence.

This works great. It comes with all required cables and worked straight out of the box. I didn't need to look at the manual. I can now share my wireless USB keyboard and mouse (Logitech DiNovo) between two PC's with this, because of the USB-sharing port. I have had countless failures with other devices trying to achieve this in the past. This one is a success though and it's dirt cheap too (25 quid plus postage)

I plug my wireless USB keyboard/mouse hub into the KVM's USB port, and it gets routed to whichever PC is active. Works perfectly. I still have to make the PS2 keyboard connections to each PC though (PS2 mouse connections not necessary). Because firstly, the PS2 connections provide power for the KVM... and secondly, it seems you can't switch PC's unless the KVM detects something on both PS2 keyboard connections. One of my PC's is a laptop that has no PS2 ports (only USB), but it worked fine with a USB to PS2 adapter.

I did not have to connect a "console" PS2 mouse or keyboard to the KVM at all - however, this means I have to use the button on the KVM to switch PC's (There is no keyboard shortcut if you don't have a PS2 keyboard connected to the box!)

My monitor worked flicker-free for both PCs at high resolutions HOWEVER a control panel tweak was needed: WindowsXP on each PC thought the KVM was a "generic" monitor, and didn't see "through" it to the real monitor. So I got a flickery, wobbly 60Hz default refresh rate at first. I changed the refresh rate in the control panel to higher values (on both PC's), and after that the display was perfect for both - clear and flicker free, no wobbles.

I have to assume it works OK with a PS2 keyboard and mouse too, but I haven't tried that. The USB sharing clearly works well, as does the monitor sharing.

Great product but I have had a couple of niggly issues with it, hence the four stars. The switch works great, and I bought a 4 port USB adaptor to augment the single built-in USB. Now have wireless keyboard/mouse, plus printer and external hard drive merrily connected.

However I experienced issues with setting up the switch to work with only my desktop connected, seemingly because of the wireless keyboard, and ended up (there may be better options?) connecting an old keyboard to the switch to allow my desktop to boot without issue. I also had to get a PS2 to USB adaptor for my laptop.

If these weren't external to the switch then it would have got 5 stars, as the product itself does exactly what it should, with perfect display.

This does exactly what I require of it. Using PS2 keyboard and mouse I linked the USB port on the switch to a hub which faultlessly provides access for both computers to two printers and an external hard drive. I need this setup to support working from home now I am semi-retired so I have access to our home PC and my work laptop on its docking station. There are no audio connections on the switch but I don't need them. It is neat, was very easy to install and swaps between computers in seconds using the hot keys. Can't fault it.

If, like me, you work on two computers and switch between them often, and want to stick to one mouse, one keyboard and one screen, this is exactly what you need. It is simple to install and works well. I especially like the quick keyboard-based switch between the two machines (two quick presses of scroll lock and then F1 or F2 - easy!). Just do a quick check on your cables (male/female, USB or not etc) as you may need an adaptor or two. I didn't, however. Reliable, and good value.

An excellent piece of kit - does exactly what it says on the tin. I now have only one monitor, keyboard and mouse to clutter up my workspce. Is very easy to use, automatically selects which ever computer I turn on and is very easily switched to the other when required.

Well built, the cables are a good length, and it works.
One small gripe. There is only one USB port; if you use a USB mouse and a USB keyboard, you are in trouble.

I wasn't aware that the switch beeps when you switch computer - that is annoying and cannot be turned off. Otherwise, works well - a good buy.

I bought this item so that I could use one monitor with a new computer. I tried all combinations in setting up the D-Link but it did not switch the monitor from one computer to the other. The light on the D-Link for both the switch and the hot keys, when switching from one computer to the other, only flashed and reverted to one computer - my old computer. On my new computer both the keyboard and mouse have usb connectors and not PS/2 so the cables from the D-Link were not connected to it. I tried disconnecting the keyboard and mouse from the D-Link and connecting them directly to my old computer and the monitor does not work nor did the light on the D-Link come on. After 7 days Ballicom finally told me that the D-Link is expecting the monitor, keyboard and mouse to be connected to both computers for it to switch with PS/2 connectors. There is nothing in the user guide that says that it will not work if they are not connected. For the D-Link to work, ensure that that both have PS/2 connectors. If the new computer has usb connectors for the keyboard and mouse then a usb-PS/2 converter is required.
