Overview

The D-Link DHP-W307AV Homeplug AV Wireless N Starter Kit turns every power socket into a possible wired or wireless network connection, extending your existing wireless network using the electrical wiring in your home.

Convenient setup and secure operation

The two adapters in the DHP-W307AV kit plug directly into any power outlet1, and do not require any additional cables. Extend your home network by connecting multiple devices in the farthest corners of your home via Ethernet cable or Wireless N. For convenient setup, wired or wireless encryption keys can be quickly configured at the push of a button on the device, to protect the network from unauthorised wire tapping. With hassle-free plug and play installation, the DHP-W307AV is an ideal solution for creating a wall-to-wall home network.

Ideal for bandwidth-intensive applications

The DHP-W307AV is capable of delivering wired data transfer rates of up to 200 Mbps. Advanced technology built into these adapters makes them more resistant to electrical interference from other household appliances, so users can fully benefit from the maximum transmission speeds. This makes it ideal for bandwidth-intensive applications, guaranteeing smooth HD video streaming, VoIP calls, and lag-free online gaming experiences. In addition, its Quality of Service (QoS) Engine prioritises Internet traffic, ensuring that multimedia applications do not experience glitches while web surfing and downloads are in progress. This kit provides ample network bandwidth, enabling Digital Home consumers to tap into existing electrical wiring for high-quality multimedia streaming.

Compatibility

Based on the industry-leading PowerLine Alliance technology, the adapters in the DHP-W307AV kit are compatible with other brands’ devices based on the same Homeplug AV standard, such as D-Link’s DHP-306AV/-307AV, and DHP-P306AV/-P307AV. The Wireless N standard is also backwards compatible with Wireless G devices. To protect your investment, these PowerLine adapters are IPv6 ready, to continue compatibility with future networks.

4.0 out of 5 stars NO MORE WIFI SIGNAL ISSUES!!!!! 23 Feb 2012
By iceman
Hi there guys i hope my review will be of help to you? So here goes,i live in a house on 2 floors and my main adsl BT socket is on ground floor near the main door were i have the router installed. then on the first floor i have a dell pc in kids bedroom connected via wifi to router, no probs there. But my problems begin when i try to connect my Macbook pro on second floor in my room, i do have a signal up there but i keep having to reset my router to keep connected as signal keeps dropping every hour or so and is made worse when kids are on line downstairs. So after alot of deliberation and research i decided to invest in this d-link wireless access point kit and boy am i glad i did, it does exactly as it supposed to i connected the main unit next to router and linked it with ethernet cable direct to d'link unit and plugged the the other d'link (one with ariels) up in my bedroom on second floor and switched everything on and pressed the wps button on bottom d'link unit and thats it away we go. Started macbook pro searched for wifi signals found new d'link access point and connected to it no problem.I have had them up and running for a couple of weeks now no problems to report thus far, however i will admit they are a bit pricey at £84.00 but does do the job.A WARNING THOUGH PLEASE NOTE YOUR NEW ACCESS POINT IS NOT PASSWORD PROTECTED ONCE CONNECTED THEREFOR ANY ONE CAN LINK TO IT AND USE YOUR BROADBAND.!!! To set up password you must connect to d'link ip address thru your main browser address bar (not google search) and follow instructions on site and add a ssid password. If in doubt consult customer services or profesional. GOOD LUCK GUYS ....

4.0 out of 5 stars Powerlink/wireless 20 Sep 2011

The 2 units work perfectly with wired ethernet. It is impossible to set the wireless function using the built in buttons. To set the wireless function via the built in router function is very difficult. Once done the wireless signal is established but with mine it seems to come and go. I have almost given up on the wireless part and use ethernet wherever possible. This is a shame as the ethernet only option is quite a bit cheaper than the wireless option.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent (But - see review edit) 21 May 2011
I've had quite a lot of wireless kit over the years and most (if not all) of it has let me down in some way or another. Difficulties in setting up and poor performance are the norm rather than the exception.

I'm really pleased to say that this is not the case here.

I wanted to extend the range of my wifi connection to cover the whole house and this does just that. Plus the free additional adapter (you post a claim form off to D-Link) will let me stick one behind the telly for a wired connection to internet services.

Plug it in, press one button and away you go! It literally took 20 seconds to set up a WPA2 AES secured network.

I have this connected through a DIR-655 router and the extended wireless file transfers run at about 7MB/s (Bytes not bits) at the furthest point I could reach (one floor and 4 rooms away). The existing router's signal doesn't reach this far and only delivers about 10MB/s even when sat on top of it!

Internet speeds are the same as if connected directly to the modem (I have a 20Mb VirginMedia cable connection and it delivers 20Mb)

There is one thing to watch for though - I wanted this primarily to cover a new extension and conservatory and the electric points in both are on a new circuit. The performance when plugged into that circuit drops by about a half but switching it to an existing socket anywhere else in the house works very well indeed.

Overall it's a little bit more than I was hoping to pay but the results and simplicity more than make up for that. Very impressed.

EDIT - 29 July 2012.

Just a brief update - the unit was working perfectly well until a few weeks ago when it just died.

I'll begin by telling you about my network and what issues I have had. I have a D-Link DIR-655 router downstairs with a Synology 1tb Nas drive attached holding all my media (music and film). Upstairs I have an Xbox360 to which I use to stream video from the NAS device, an apple airport express to stream music through blu-ray stereo speakers and a Macbook. These items would never receive a very strong signal and this meant, streaming on-line video was choppy and always re buffering, music sent along the network to the airport express would cut out and not play properly and video sent from the NAS to the Xbox would never load due to the poor connection. I have suffered with this shockingly poor network for 18 months and have finally snapped so bought these D-Link plugs of joy.

I received my item and was impressed at how they looked and how they were boxed. They are very well made and not an eye-sore when plugged in. in fact I would say they are a 'mature' looking product that look like they mean business!

The quick installation guide is useful and after following it I was up and running within about 15 minutes. What I did not know is that this does essentially create another wireless network that you connect to unlike your standard 'extender' plugs on the market.

This was not a problem and I liked seeing which network will deliver the stronger signal. This also allows you to actually see the difference it makes when you look at the network stats. These plugs have improved my network by more than 3x its original speed.

I can stream without glitches to the airport express. Movies stream from my NAS to the Xbox without stalling. And even better I managed to watch my first LoveFilm movie streaming from the internet to my TV.
