No technical knowledge required!

mydlink: the easiest way to monitor your home

Connecting a camera to your network and accessing it has traditionally required complex configuration. Thanks to mydlink home monitoring is now made simple.

mydlink makes it easy to access your camera from wherever you are, whenever it’s convenient for you- for free. A step-by-step guide has your camera up and running in a matter of minutes. Then via a simple website you can set up a mydlink account allowing you to view and manage your camera from any Internet connected computer. If you have more than one camera, you can add it to your existing mydlink account and watch all your cameras from a single location.

Accessing your cameras on the go is easy too. Just download the free mydlink app for your iPhone or Android and you can quickly and easily view your camera feed from anywhere with a wireless or 3G connection.

Night vision: monitor your home/office by day and night

The camera comes with built-in infrared LEDs that allow for continuous monitoring even in complete darkness. The 5-metre illumination distance makes it suitable for monitoring what matters to you most; your baby, sleeping in the nursery, or your office 24/7.

A complete monitoring system

This camera includes additional features such as motion detection and email alerts, via the User Interface. This makes the camera a truly comprehensive home monitoring system for those that want to do more.

You can easily set up a detection area (i.e. a window, or your garage door) on the camera’s User Interface, so that emails will be sent to you to notify you of any motion detected.

You can also view up to 32 cameras from a Windows computer using the included free D-ViewCam software (DCS-100). D-ViewCam also has a robust set of features including centralised alert management and video/audio recording.

Wireless N connectivity

The DCS-932L camera includes Wireless N technology for wider coverage around your home. Wireless N also allows you to stream high-quality video to remote sites over the Internet. A Site Survey feature also allows you to view and connect to nearby wireless networks with ease. The DCS-932L also includes a standard Ethernet port for connections to traditional wired networks.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good security camera but not without flaws 10 Dec 2011
I set this camera up today. The process was for the most part very straightforward. A setup DVD is included and since it seemed to be Windows-only I had to use an old Windows laptop rather than my Macbook. There are methods of setup using a Mac but I didn't explore them.

The camera has to be connected to your router using a supplied LAN cable, and is then discovered over your network as part of the setup process. During this process a password needs to be set to access the camera via your network. Be careful here! More on my issue with this later. This part of the setup is very straightforward, and the camera is up and running in no time. I downloaded the free iphone app and was watching live video on my iphone straight away. I also downloaded the ipad app, 69p, which does more or less the same thing. It is possible to take a snapshot of what you are seeing on both the iphone and ipad, as well as adjusting the sound volume. The sound quality is fairly poor, but the video quality is acceptable.

Once the setup is complete the camera can be disconnected from the LAN cable and functions perfectly well over wifi. The camera has to be powered from the mains, and since the power cable is quite short options for placement are a little restricted. The next step is to set up an online profile via the D-link website. This is also very easy and once done the camera can be viewed through a web browser. However the website seems quite buggy and slow. The ipone/ipad apps are far better.

In order to access the camera and adjust its settings it is necessary to use the D-link website within your profile. This is where my problems started. The manual is very poor on this area (actually there's nothing on it in the setup guide), and the online, full version references a website with different options to the one you see yourself. To access the camera to adjust settings it is necessary to click on "advanced settings", which redirects you to a completely different website. The first issue was that Chrome just doesn't work at all here. I had to fire up the hated Internet Explorer, which then, eventually, prompts you to enter a username and password. I eventually worked out that the username needs to be "admin", and the password needs to be the one you entered way back at the start of the setup process. When I typed in this password I got zilch. Not recognised.

It took me several hours to realise what the problem was. The password originally entered needed to be less than 8 characters long. I entered one that was 9 characters long. Rather than returning an error, the program took the first 8 characters typed as the password. Not good software design.

Once I finally worked this out and logged in, I was able to adjust the video resolution, sound volume and also the settings for automatic frame capture and email settings, so that it will email you a picture if the camera is triggered. This seems to work well, although there appears to be a lag, so that when I walk past the camera and it triggers, the picture sent is often blank. There are plenty of other options which I haven't yet explored, such as streaming pictures to an external server.

So, in summary, the camera seems to be good with a few wrinkles. The setup was a pain, but mainly because of the password issue. However I'm really happy about the apps, and at least I'll get a notification if the camera is triggered, upon which I'll be able to view live video of my living room to make sure there isn't someone climbing out of the window with a bag labelled "swag".

** update 31/8/12 **

This camera has been functioning superbly since I bought it, allowing me to see my property from anywhere I happen to be, via the iPhone/iPad link showing live video, anywhere in the UK and also abroad. In fact, I bought a second, identical unit which performs just as well and shows an alternative perspective on my (thankfully) empty flat. Any misgivings I had about the setup are now forgotten in the mists of time and I actually really rely on the cameras for peace-of-mind. So now I can really recommend this camera, having forgotten the (minor) issues I had with the setup. Time heals all wounds.

5.0 out of 5 stars EASY PEASY 25 Jun 2012

Will keep this short and sweet as there is plenty of other detailed reviews out there relating to this IP Camera.

Ok so my system is an Apple iMac, iPhone4s, Galaxy S2, Ipad2, Synology DS 112J single NAS drive & 300M Wireless N ADSL2+ Modem Router TD-W8960N.

Previously I tried a Foscam unit out but the complexity was bewildering, the Dlink unit (second cam on order) was simple to set up, just plug the mains lead in connect the lan cable between the cam & router follow the simple instructions and bingo...... streaming live video via my nas to every wireless gadget we own, i'm no geek but with some simple knowledge its easy to set up.

much has been said regarding the wireless properties of this camera, NOT SO....... by pressing the button on the back of the camera and then pressing my PSS button on my router the two units paired up and a wireless signal was being beamed from my bedroom to the NAS, now all set up we have streamed images being sent to the NAS, any movement detected by the camera & the NAS will automatically record on the NAS.

If you're looking for basic security system THIS IS IT......BRILLIANT VERY IMPRESSED

For MAC users the CD supplied is rubbish, it only covers Windows. you can download the install process and register your camera with D-LiNK (make a note of the IP & MAC address) you will need it when adding the camera to your NAS.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy until you read this 28 April 2013

There is a fundamental bug in the MyDlink software that stops you registering 2 or more cameras on your premises. D-Link are refusing to address the issue and there are thousands of angry users out there. Google this or search the MyD-Link forums.
This is the 2nd D-Link camera I have purchased. I was so pleased with the first camera which works fine but the whole objective of the MyDlink Cloud software is that you can run multiple cameras from the same account. I have written to D-Link twice asking them when a patch for the software will be made available but no reply. Its a shame really as the product and software promised so much potential.

Easy enough to setup and use, but for the price the picture quality is very poor. I have another cheap unbranded IP camera which gives the same quality for half the price.
