Product Description

Product Description

On June 6, 1944, 50,000 Allied troops in 3,000 landing craft poured onto the beaches of Normandy, supported by thousand of other vessels and aircraft, thus embarking on the invasion of Nazi-occupied Europe. Code-named Operation Overlord, the D-Day landings signaled the beginning of the end of Hitler's Germany. Operation Overlord was, and remains, the largest amphibious assault ever conducted, and is one of the most fascinating and evocative battles fought in history.D-Day Operation Overlord Day-by-Day is a chronological approach to the landings, allowing the reader to see at a glance the preparations made for the invasion of Normandy as well as the key actions on the beaches and farther inland. From the initial landings on the morning of June 6 on beaches Gold, Juno, Sword, Utah, and Omaha, to the point whereby all five of the landing forces had joined up on June 12, the action is meticulously covered.

A nice reference book, especially for beginners 20 July 2009
By Dave Schranck - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
This book has some things in common with the other "Day by Day" series. It has some color maps, many interesting photos, informative sidebars of key personalities, weapons, tactics etc. Its different to all the rest in the series in that the timeframe covered is short allowing the author to expand comments for each entry. Mr Hall has done a nice job delivering more fuller responses than you usually find in this series.

The book begins coverage in Dec 1943 and works its way to June 6th. Prior to D-Day, the author describes the planning stage of D-Day including Operation Neptune, Fortitude, as well as Overlord. On the German side, the author states some of the items they did to prepare for the anticipated invasion.

On June 6th, the author takes us through almost on a hourly basis the events that happened on the five major landing sites.

I enjoyed the book but felt a higher rating would be inappropriate when you compare it to more comprehensive Chronologies by Raymond Bluhm, Keith Dickson, Mary Williams or Jurgen Rohwer.

If you're wanting to learn about Operation Overlord and the events of D-Day, this would be a good place to start.

This was the wrong book! 8 Mar 2007
By Barney R. Jenkins - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I loaned my book, "D-Day Operation Overlord", with foreword by Winston Churchill to a person that moved. When I saw the title and cover on your web site I thought it was the same book. I have now located the person that borrowed my book and it has been returned.

Thanks,

B. R. Jenkins
