It's all too easy to find accounts of the US units on D-Day. Omaha was a bloodbath, that can't be denied, but the Canadian beach, Juno, is an often ignored part of the battle that was equal to Omaha in intensity during the early hours of D-day. This book covers the story of 48 RM Commando, from their formation to the end of the war, including their landing on the eastern end of Juno beach just 100 yards from a German strongpoint. The unit lost all its Troop Commanders in a couple of hours and this account paints a picture of events using personal voices and narrative. The Canadians and 48 Commando really did have a terrible time on Juno and I applaud their sacrifice and this author for writing such a memorable account.
