Product Description

Product Description

David Gandy is both an icon and muse for Dolce&Gabbana—the Italian designers’ masculine ideal. Originally from suburban London and a self-professed car fanatic, he got into modeling by chance through a contest. Since then, he has taken the fashion world by storm, working with top photographers and stylists.

This photographic homage traces Gandy’s career from early photo shoots to the acclaimed advertising campaign for the Dolce&Gabbana fragrance Light Blue, which captured the world’s imagination and transformed him into a global icon of virility, sex appeal, and charm. The Light Blue campaign alone garnered over eleven million online hits, and his image has been featured in a fifty-foot poster towering over Times Square in New York.

This book includes photographs by Mario Testino, Steven Klein, Giampaolo Sgura, and Mariano Vivanco, among others.

After waiting months for this to release, I just got this in the mail and I am really, really pleased with the production value and the print quality of this book.. The glossy print is gorgeous (although I feel like I should be wearing special gloves to handle the pages...) and the A3 format, while huge, is essential and gives gorgeous hi-res details to the photography. It's rather impressive all told, and rather like the man himself in that respect. It's a nice love letter to such a hard working model and the small snippets of writing gives some rather interesting insight to his values and experiences in the fashion industry, and my only complaint is that there wasn't more of it. But, I suppose I'll just stick to his blog for my fix on that subject.

From the formal fashion shoots to runway and more casual behind the scene shots, every picture is just gorgeous and reflects well upon not only the model but the photographer as well. It's just a lovely book with superb print quality and worth every pence. It's got a proud place on my bookshelf.

first I didn't want to buy this book because it's dedicated to only one model...
but when I read that D&G consider him as a muse and even the ideal of male beauty, it make me buy this book out of curiosity...
and this is really it! this is the look of modern ideal of male beauty... by all means! and views... even frontal nudity :)
and now it's a matter of discussions when my friends gather at my house and lots of fun!

A beautiful Man 29 Aug 2011

A beautiful book. The photographs are stunning, nice enough to be framed and hung. Michelangelo would have been very interested in sculpting Mr. Gandy.
