About the Author

Roald Dahl was born in Wales in 1916. He was educated in England before going to work for the Shell Oil Company in Africa. With the outbreak of World War II, he became an RAF fighter pilot. He began writing for adults at the close of the war, with the encouragement of C. S. Forester. Biographical, trivia info about Dahl 4 Mar. 2012
By JMS - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Paperback
I've been a big fan and collector of Roald Dahl since I was about 10 years old. Almost all of the info in the books, I was already familiar with (from reading Boy, Going Solo, and the children's fiction he wrote). This book gave a few tidbits of new info that I found charming and/or interesting about Dahl, but for the most part it seemed like a promotional product for selling you his other books: One of the most common lines in this book is, "To find out more, read ... (insert name of book by Roald Dahl)." This is definitely NOT a must-have if you are looking to complete your collection of Roald Dahl publications, but might be informative if you are interested in knowing random, factual information about the author.

Fun new info on a great author 3 Oct. 2007
By Virginia Price - Published on Amazon.com

This is a great review of Dahl's life and career in a really fun format that will make it fun for kids. By making it an "alphabet book" his life and times are peppered with bits from his books, funny words he invented, and lots of great illustration from Blake. I've been reading it just a bit at a time in order to savor it, because it's worth it. This is a must have for Dahl fans of any age.

RETURNED IT 16 April 2012

I probably should have paid closer attention to the contents of the book because it was not what I had expected. I returned it upon closer examination. I though since I was a fan of the author Dahl, I would enjoy this kid's book. Not so much. Read before ordering.
Triviatastic! 21 May 2014
By A. Porterfield-Brock - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
D is for Dahl is one of those fantastically quick and fun reads that I think every parent should read with their child (or in my case the adult with the heart of a child). This book is especially fun for those fans of the writer who may not know much about the man himself. He was such a unique, kind individual and that spirit shone through in his writings for both children and adults. To learn about the eccentricities of his private life is to have your estimation of the character of Dahl increase exponentially. For something delightfully funny with a fast pace, this is the perfect book to pick up.
A must have for any Dahl fan 21 Oct. 2013

I discovered this little gem in the public library and had to have my own copy. Full of fun and fascinating tidbit about Roald Dahl and his books; knowing more about the author makes his books even more enjoyable.
