On a recent visit to the Czech Republic, (first time) the Czech phrase books and Czech-English dictionary I found were written by Czechs, for native Czech speakers, and were not extremely helpful. The DK Eyewitness Travel Guides "Czech Phrase Book" reviewed here turns out to be written for the English speaker and is MUCH more useful. I would also recommend Burikovova's "Czech Dictionary & Phrasebook", it is a little larger but still pocket sized, and includes a reasonable dictionary, plus a condensed history of the region in the introduction. Many Czech nationals speak at least some English, and many are fluent. These two books would provide good help for an English-only traveler, both were obtained from Amazon.
