Book Description

During his time, Cyrus was proclaimed the greatest leader of his era and, perhaps, of the ancient world. Much of what we know about him comes from pieces of the Old Testament, the Babylonian Chronicle, and the writings of ancient historians Herodotus and Xenophon. Through these writings from his friends and foes, we gather a view of this extraordinary man. Though he can be compared to Julius Caesar and Genghis Khan for his military accomplishments, Cyrus was also a master at diplomacy and tact. He welded together groups of people as disparate as Afghani tribesmen and Turkish farmers, creating the first world empire known in the Western world. His legacy in the Middle East lives on, for he was the leader who initiated the Persians' and Iranians' national destinies more than 2,000 years ago.

Review

"The books are attractively laid out, with ample color photographs and maps that supplement the text...a solid series for middle and high school history collections...Recommended."

1.0 out of 5 stars Writer has no clue on Cyrus! 23 Oct. 2012

I am sad to say that the author has no clue on Iranian history and Cyrus the Great.
In fact he says that " Cyrus was not Iranian but a true Persian". I have news for him: Persian are Iranians! In fact Persian were just one of several Iranian Tribes. Medes are also Iranian. To make things worst, this author writes about khomeini in the book!! Also tries to compare Cyrus the Great with Alexander (whose empire fell apart after his death!!).

Iran is over 7000 years old and has always been called "Iran" -Land of the Aryans. Persia is just one tribe that the West concentrates on.
You are better off reading the following on Cyrus The Great: [...]
This books seems to have been written with a lot of political bias, if you ask me.

A good book to have in elementary school libraries. Should be used to expose all children to other cultures.
