Format: Paperback
I bought this having just purchased my first bike of adulthood. Whilst not being completely unhelpful, I found it a little basic, and as I had already purchased my bike, a large bulk of the book about what to choose and why was irrelevant. I was hoping for a more structured fitness programme that I could easily follow and dip into when I had lost inspiration, but the programmes are little more than an afterthought, and require various calculations of heart rate that frankly I am unlikely to bother with. The title is a little misleading in my view, and this book offered nothing that I wouldn't have been able to find for free in quick online search.

I was disappointed by this book, as it was advertised on Amazon as about getting fit for cycling, and it is more about using cycling to get fit. It is therefore too simplistic for those who already cycle but want to improve their cycling fitness. For 'beginners' on bikes it would be a fine introduction. The actual full title is in fact more accurate than Amazon's description, and doesn't include the crucial 'for cycling'. I haven't returned it to Amazon (too much trouble?) but bought a better book: The Cyclist's Training Manual, Andrews and Doughty. Now this one IS good!
