Product Description

"Cycling Days Out - South East England" is an informative and vibrant guide to the traffic-free family and leisure cycling in Kent, Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire. Written by Deirdre Huston - a keen cyclist and co-author of the popular Cycling in Sussex, "Cycling Days Out" explores tourist trails, country parks, forest riding and much much more. Each area is written up with a detailed introduction, together with comprehensive visitor information, including how to get there - by public transport or car, where to eat and drink, and places of interest. The routes are complemented with a mix of Ordnance Survey and bespoke mapping, together with easy-to-follow directions. The book is finished with stunning action photography throughout. Vertebrate Publishing is one of a new breed of independent publishers, dedicated to producing the very best outdoor titles. We have award-winning and bestselling titles covering a range of activities, including; mountain biking, cycling, rock climbing, hillwalking and others. Our autobiography of British rock climber Jerry Moffatt won the Grand Prize at the 2009 Banff Mountain Book Festival - one of the biggest prizes in publishing in the outdoors, environment and adventure genres.

About the Author

Deirdre Huston is an author and photographer whose work is inspired by her love of the outdoors. She is co-author of the popular leisure cycling guidebook Cycling in Sussex, a collection of local routes on quiet lanes and off-road trails. Researching guidebooks gives her the perfect excuse to indulge her love of cycling, walking and photography, and it is through cycling with her family and friends that she has come to recognise the differing needs of various cyclists. A qualified teacher and mother of three, Deirdre was born in Sussex. She enjoys exploring favourite and familiar places as much as seeking out new locations which are tucked away, yet to be discovered. Deirdre runs community-based Young Writers Workshops in mid-Sussex and is author of the children's story Jake, Zee-Bee and the Crystal Quest. She is currently researching a walking book for the South Downs National Park.

Enjoy the ride 27 Jan 2011
Getting out on your bike should be a fun thing to do, but one of the main problems is where to go. What this book does very well is provide a nice spread of rides to choose from that are easy to follow and the information on parking and snack stops encourages you to give them a go.
Having tried each ride once or twice you'll be inspired to investigate further I'm sure - 'what if I turn down here?' The Ordnance Survey maps used are very clear and provide accurate information.
A great little book that will have you riding all over the place safe in the knowledge you know how far you're going, where the drinks/eats/toilets are, and how to get back!

Wonderful 9 Dec 2010
By K.Noble
I bought this book to help find ways to keep the kids ( aged 13 & 9) away from the TV and game consoles for the odd afternoon. It has proved to work! So far we have done two of the easier routes...it is winter afterall....and look forward to tackling some of the harder ones on sunnier days.
The directions are very easy to follow, and at no point did we feel unsure as to where to turn next.
The book also covers where you can get a snack and drink along the way...also vital in child "encouragement"!!
