5.0 out of 5 stars easy reading and helpful tips 9 Feb 2009
I purchased this book mainly to help put more hours in the saddle. This year I am taking part in several Sportive rides. I needed a guide to increase my time from my daily commute, to several hours at one time.

There is a great deal of information for the novice cyclist, for those with more cycling experience the most important chapter is the 8 week workouts. Taking you from 4 hours a week cycling in the first plan, through to several hours at a time in the final plan.

I found the advice, laid out in laymans terms and thoroughly enjoyed the read. If your goal is to begin cycling or transition to the next level this is worth the buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Packs loads in 10 Jan 2009
This book packs in loads of information, and good quality pictures.

There is an introduction to different types of bike from the basics to the component parts.

A set of training programmes builds up from a low enough level to suit whatever fitness level you start from, along with guidance about riding for fitness and good non-cycling exercises.

There is also dietary advice, probably as much as in many dedicated diet books!

Nicole also talks about racing, preparing and participating. All in all there is a lot in this book. For an expert that probably means it wouldn't be in depth enough, but I'm no expert.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cycle for Life - what it says on the cover 14 Dec 2008
This is an excellent book that more than lives up to the product description. It is suitable for the novice contemplating the commute to work, right through to the moderately experienced cyclist. As the later, I found those elements relating to diet particularly helpful. It was also interesting to see the elements of training and cross training laid out in a way suitable for those of us trying to fit training around a busy work life. It is excellently produced, with many attractive and well placed pictures. It would make an excellent present for someone who is thinking of taking up cycling as a pastime, whether that be on a recreational or sporting basis.

It certainly is not an autobiography, but then it did not say that on the cover !
