Excellant GUIDE book,

This book is a must have for bike people in certain areas of Central America (Southern Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras). Its slightly old now, but mountains and roads don't move much - beware though land slides do move mountains and end roads abruptly in this part of the world. It covers towns other guide book don't, it gives topographical information which only a cycling book would, useful Spanish words, bike selection and part information, it's inspirational and has a few rides that only a dedicated cyclist of these part would find. The best thing is it is thin and light, so unlike a lot of guide books which you curse their Kgs of weight in the mountains this truly is a cycling companion. Travellers may wish to bring along a more traditional guide book in conjunction however for more non bike type information.

Lacks maps and logistics detail,

This book lacks maps which makes it difficult to trace the suggested routes. And the suggested routes end up being so vague that the reader ends up figuring out their own route anyway. At best you get some reassurance on your own routing, but there isn't nearly enough information provided to plan a tour. The author could at least construct some rudimentary maps to help plot out their routes but doesn't. You are better off buying a map and a Frommers/Lonely planet guide.
