An early outing for Van Damme, this one is a bit of a rare classic.
Made around the time that Mad Max had brought the post-apocalyptic genre back into the public eye, Jean-Claude stars as Gibson, a drifter trying to make his way through the burned out wreck of civilization.
The story revolves around Gibson and a young woman attempting to rescue a female cyborg, Pearl from the clutches of the brutal Fender. Fender is the leader of a band of violent maurauders who have taken Pearl prisoner in the hope that her knowledge of a cure for the 'plague', a disease ravaging the land, will increase their power (Fender's in particular).
Even with a low budget the setting is extremley desolate and atmospheric, which pulls you into the movie much like the Mad Max films. There's plenty of action with Van Damme throwing out his trademark kicks and some grusome scenes, usually involving Fender.
With post-apocalyptic movies back in fashion in 2009, this is a rare classic that's worth a look for fans of the genre.
