5.0 out of 5 stars Really really funny show with a great Star 12 Jun 2008

I first saw Cybill on German tv and fell in love with it, there are not many sitcoms from the mid 90s who were this überwitty and sarcastic like Cybill. You may think Friends and Will & Grace, but they are very different.
The only thing I miss from the German dubbing is Maryann's stronger and manlier voice which is funnier than Baranski's actual voice, however after a couple of episodes I got used to it and I can see she shines anyway.

Cybill still holds its own and has several laugh out moments even in the first episodes, which sometimes it tv shows can be a bit more trivial than later seasons. I cannot imagine why this show is not on DVD in the US, they just issued a best of compilation......
Odd also that they box of this dvd says it's a 4-dvd collection, when it's actually 3.
For the price amazon.co.uk is offering this show, it's a steal, get this, you will not regret it

5.0 out of 5 stars Cybill Shepherd - The Best Of.... 14 Jun 2006

This sitcom was not really excessively shown on television, and I only came across it briefly at one point. However, it is one of the funniest sitcoms exported from the U.S in this time period - even despite mainstream (primetime) appeal. It is often cited as a U.S equivalent of the BBC's Absolutely Fabulous with good reason.

One of the highlights of the series is Christine Baranski (Cybill's best and less-than-sober friend) who pre-dates but is remarkably similar to Will and Grace's Karen Walker. The character, like Karen Walker, is exceptionally funny and provides a humourous 'drunken' backdrop to the sitcom and is generally the focus of many episodes. Cybill's on-screen daughter Zoe, portrayed by Alicia Witt is the acerbic, acid-tongued, daughter who provides a contrast to the L.A lifestyle led by the rest of the cast. Deedee Pfieffer portrays Cybill's other daughter and is exceptionally funny throughout.

Its an unique type of sitcom but it certainly worked well and was massively underappreciated. As there are only four seasons of the show, it is especially pleasing that Anchor Bay are releasing them all pretty quickly and I will soon have the whole collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious 21 Nov 2007
I remember watching this show many years ago, when it became available on DVD I couldn't wait to buy a copy. I was not disappointed. Unlike many programs that I used to watch and have since bought on DVD this show HAS stood the test of time and IS still as funny now as it was then. I have two teenage daughters who watch with me and they laugh just as loudly as I do. Which just proves that good clean fun does not date.
