Lots of promise but fails to deliver - Windows Movie Maker could be a cheaper solution! 20 Jan 2012

I had 6 hours of video footage I wanted to condense into a DVD following a holiday. This software looked really good, and so I decided to give it a try. First and foremost the process of importing video from a video camera worked really well (but then it does in Microsoft Movie Maker... and thats free) and the software correctly split the video footage into scenes. The editing interface is easy to use and is very flexible, enabling you to mix video clips, display up to 100 on screen at any time if you wanted to. I was able to drag and drop music from itunes and still images into the editor and build a movie with transitions and text effects etc with ease. It crashes sometimes if you try to do too much at once, but it also remembers what you were doing and recovers any unsaved work - a bonus as it did crash quite a bit. Now the not so good part - and the only reason I purchased it rather than use Windows Movie Maker. Making the final edited movie into a DVD. THe software really struggled to do this - you leave it for hours only to find that the DVD does not burn, or some scenes are incomplete, or some sound is lost etc. I threw away nearly 20 DVDs before giving up and trying plan B - which involved producing MPEG2 encoded files of each chapter of my movie, and then using the free Microsoft DVD maker software to burn the whole lot onto a DVD - which worked a treat.

SO, to sum it all up - good software for editing, nice interface, lots of output options, let down by some childish looking titles and overalys (and there is a load more to download of the internet but most of it is pretty poor) but really let down by its poor ability to burn DVDs.

If I had my time again, I'd have stuck with the free Windows Movie Maker software which does everything this does, except for handling 3D movies, and it doesn;t look quite so slick.

I have purchased the software and paid additional money to get it delivery quickly. It arrived in 24 hours and .. it does not work! I installed and disinstalled the software several times and I it keeps on telling me that the software has stopped working. I have tried to contact Cyberlink and they do not have a chat (which is very disappointing) and the phone technical support is available only to US residents and you have to pay for it. I have looked on the internet for solutions and I have realised that this is a common problem. I will return the software and buy something else. If it is well known that the CD has an issue fix it rather than selling stuff that do not work.

Good Product BUT With Problems Update 23 Jan 2012 15 Dec 2011

I originally reviewed this as 5 star when I first bought this in Dec 2011. This was based on using the Download Trial. I have deleted my review and replaced it with this after battles trying to Auto-batch capture of a 50 minute video I had on my DV camera.

My PC was rebuilt with a dual core 32 bit processor, 450 Gb HDD and Radion Graphics with Windows 7 O/S. All sufficient to work with this product.

I have tried since mid December 2011 to use the Auto batch capture mode via a IEEE 1394 firewire card but to no avail. It starts ok and finds the scenes ok as thumbnails but when it starts to capture the scenes properly it crashes after about 3 minutes or so.

Cyberlink [email help only!!!!] responded to my query after 24 hours and asked for various data which I supplied. They suggested downloading driver updates as well as the Power Director 10 patch 1129b. Even after all this, and considerable time spent trying to see if the 'fixes' worked I am still no further forward.

My option has been to download my video the use the manual scene select and spliting. Very time consuming with 140 scenes!!

I must say the rest of the product does work well and when I compare it to the previous editing software I was using [Pinnacle 9.4 under XP] it's a real fast and likeable product.

Until Cyberlink sort out this auto batch problem I can only say Power Director 10 Deluxe is ok.
