Format:Audio CD
I'm not usually keen on buying CD singles, but I have been following Kasabian for most of their career and I know that they're incredibly good both live and acoustic.
Cutt Off is a good single, although this version is slightly different to the album version, lacking the synth ending, cutting the song short. Lyrically, it seems to make little sense, but it is the chanting chorus and seemingly non sensical lyrics that make the song so likeable.
The acoustic version of 'Processed Beats' is incredible and probably even better than the original recorded version. Complete with bongo drums and Tom Meighan's distinctive voice, it shows that even the band's more dance-influenced tracks can suit the acoustic treatment.
An acoustic cover of The Prodigy's 'Out of Space' seems like a very strange choice, but considering the band cite dance/rave music as one of their main influences, it isn't that surprising.
The song works much better than you would imagine. The frantic bongo drumming and Sergio Pizzorno's rapid singing of the chorus is both enjoyable and amusing. Indeed, Tom's laughing at the end of the song illustrates that they actually had fun recording the song.
People deride Kasabian for being derivative, which I find slightly unfair. Whilst their influences are clear, their fusion of indie/rock/dance/electronic is unquestionably original and is pulled off with incredible flair. Highly recommended.
