There is much derision between LRB fans who claim that the band ended when Birtles, Shorrock & Goble went their separate ways. I have always considered LRB to be 'my band' in a similar way to that of a football supporter who claims his own team. Just like a successful football team LRB's line up has changed over the years. The post Birtles, Shorrock & Goble era has produced 4 albums.
"Where We Started From", "Test of Time", "One Night In Mississippi" and "Re-Arranged" (I won't count the Christmas Album!!). Wayne Nelson and Stephen Housden (both veterans of the 'BSG' era) have carried the LRB flame through legal name battles and countless tours. Although Housden no longer tours with the band he continue to contribute in the studio.
So what of "Cuts Like A Diamond"........... The album opens up with "The Lost And The Lonely" which sets the bar high from the outset. Crisp vocals, minor key verse into a lifting major key chorus, and the trademark key change towards the end of the song. I am happy to say from this listeners point of view the album never dips below the high standards of the lead track. In "Someone" they have recorded what I consider to be the bands "Reminiscing" for the 21st Century. Running at over 6 minutes this song alone has justified the faith and love I have for this band.
In conclusion I will make one final sporting analogy: They may not be the same team they were in the 70s and 80s but I will continue to buy a season ticket to listen to music that makes me proud to be a supporter of the Little River Band.

The Little River Band a brilliant yet underated band, certainly in the UK. I've spent many years trying to catch up with this band's output. To say some of the albums have been extremely difficult to buy is an understatement. The music they produce is very diverse and enjoyable on many levels. Although the new form of this band is not quite the sound of LRB of the 1970's 80's and 90's they are worth listening to as is this album. I have to admit I'm still getting used to the sound they now produce but it's worth investing in this album, give it a go>

While its easy to get into a whole of batch of side issues relating to personnel on this recording and allow that to colour the listening experience, I have found that repeated listenings to this recording continue to reward. Its a set of finely crafted tunes, arranged and performed vocally and instrumentally at a consistently high level. The production seems to be of an equally high standard. Is there anything else that really matters? Its enjoyable so why not buy it and experience it!
