I received this book this morning and cant wait to get baking. The recipes appear to be easy to follow and there are some really nice pie fillings that I look forward to try. The lay out is really nice and there are lots of pictures and additional info. So far so good.

A Fun Cookbook 27 Sept. 2011
By Books and Chocolate - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
This cookbook is for pie what cupcakes are to cake. It is arranged according to six different pie shapes: Cutie Pies (single-serving pies baked in a muffin tin), Flipsides (handheld turnovers, great for pie on the go), Piepops (pie lollipops!), Piejars (baked in small canning jars), Petit-5's (baked in a mini muffin tin), and full size pies. Many of the recipes are interchangeable with the different shapes and come in both sweet and savory flavors.

If I'm going to put in the work to make pie, I'd rather just bake a full-size one, but I love the idea of the individual servings this cookbook promotes. I did try the Broccoli, Cheddar, and Mushroom Flipside pies. They turned out well and the recipe is one I will make again. It was like a savory turnover or calzone. I haven't tried the Piejar recipes yet but I do like the idea of baking individual pies in small canning jars.

The Piepops were the biggest surprise in this cookbook. They are round bite-size turnover style pies baked with a lollipop stick inserted. They would be fun for kids or as unique appetizers at a casual gathering.

Sweet recipes include Caramel-Pecan and Mango Raspberry Lemon Piepops, Strawberry Rhubarb Ginger Flipsides, Campfire S'Mores Petit-5's, Peach Ricotta Honey Piejars, and Peanut Butter and Jelly Pie, to name a few. Savory recipes include Three Cheese and Onion Cutie Pies; Salmon, Cream Cheese, and Dill Petit-5's; Egg, Potato, Cheese, and Bacon Flipsides; and Curry Veggie Piejars. There are 40 recipes in the cookbook including a variety of crusts.

This is such a fun and unique cookbook that I think anyone who enjoys baking will enjoy.

I received a copy of this book for review from the publisher but the opinion of it is my own and was not solicited, nor was a positive review required.

Perfect Pretty Pies! 28 Sept. 2011
By Jaime H. - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover
Thinking about fresh berry pie puts most people in a good mood. Thinking about fresh berry pie in single-serve portions can make one even happier. For me, the problem with standard pies is the amount that I am dedicated to make. I know I'll never eat it all- or shouldn't eat it all. However, Cone has solved that problem by showing us how we can make the whole pie, or serve it up for one or two.

Cutie Pies is a good introduction to making pies, as it features simple recipes with basic ingredients, and is all explained well for both the beginner and the novice. It also allows for a choice of pie crust to make, with vegan and gluten-free options you can make yourself. Cone expands on the standard berry pie concept (of which she gives us quite a few recipes), and serves up hors d'oeuvres ideas as well, such as petite Tomato, Basil, and Mozzarella- and keeps it easy and accessible the entire time.

Cutie Pies may not be the most useful or most used cookbook in your collection, but if you are looking for great recipes for pies to impress, this will fit that niche. It is also a good selection for those who are following a vegan or gluten-free diet. I know where I will be getting an idea to present at my next gathering- for appetizer and dessert.

Adorable Book, Perfect Results 9 Jan. 2012
By Avery - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
I bought this book for my daughter as a Christmas gift. Tonight, I arrived home from work to find the most adorable, exquisite, cupcake-sized blueberry pies waiting for me to sample. In a word, heaven! I bit in to the picture-perfect treat, and was rewarded with a mouthful of delight: lush, rich, tender crust, and a lemon-laced blueberry filling that was so surprising, fresh and flavorful it almost brought tears to my pie-loving eyes. This was my daughter's second attempt at pie baking, ever, and her result was something so delicious it could easily have been the product of a seasoned pastry chef. Pie nirvana. A cookbook that can guide even a novice to results like this deserves all 5 stars.

Not my favorite book but it's cute 16 July 2012
By Sherri Chavez - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
I am a HUGE pie baker. I bought this book because I saw it in a store in Seattle and thought it looked like something I could use for baking with my kids. Made our first recipe out of it and I have to say, I have made this type of pie a hundred times with a recipe I have out of a different cookbook and this version was just meh. The crust did NOT turn out as I had anticipated and I knew I should have stuck with the one I used all the time but I wanted to follow theirs. Much to my dismay, it didn't turn out as planned. The filling was decent but again, for all the work and cost of ingredients, I would have expected better.

The book is colorful and has lots of pictures, which I love. But I will be wary of making more things from this book for events or company. I will have to do more experimenting before feeding any of it to other people.

The recipes are poorly written. 29 Dec. 2012
By K. B. - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Hardcover Verified Purchase
The recipes are poorly written. For example, the amount of filling for the s'more mini pies make enough filling for about 3 batches, while the recipe claims to be just 1 batch of filling & crusts.
The size she directs to cut the dough for the mini pies is twice as large as it needs to be.
The filling for the lemon blueberry pie had a nice flavor but so much cornstarch that the finished 'pie' was a solid rubber ball type product.
The butter crust recipe is very good. I would not buy this book just for that 1 good recipe tho.
A much better book for cute mini pies is: Mini Pies: Adorable and Delicious Recipes for Your Favorite Treats by Christy Beaver and Morgan Greenseth.
Its recipes are reliable.
