Loved another excellent book by Kate Ellis,
By Ronnie Gadd (Wales) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Cursed Inheritance (Wesley Peterson Series) (Paperback)
Kate Ellis combines my love of archeology and murder mysteries. She writes with such flair. It never takes long before 'I'm sucked in' with old friends and I can't put it down and then suddenly it's two in the morning! Looking forward to the nexte one. I suppose my only nagging annoyance is Pam, why doesn't she get a grip?

This review is from: A Cursed Inheritance: The Wesley Peterson Series: Book 9 (The Wesley Peterson Murder Mysteries) (Kindle Edition)
Neil Watson is off on an archaeological trip to America and his grandmother has asked him to see if he can find her wartime sweetheart. Wesley Peterson and his wife Pam are struggling with domesticity and the demands of their jobs. An author is found dead on a visit to the area where he is researching into a multiple murder which happened twelve years ago.
Was he killed because he was getting too close to the truth? Wesley and his boss Gerry Heffernan suddenly find they have more than enough work to keep them busy with things such as a spate of thefts at places which hold study courses for adults as well as the murder. Of course this is not the first murder they will have to investigate before they finally work out the truth. This is quite a dark story both in regards to the modern murders and the archaeological investigation of the early settlers in the USA. There are also disturbing tensions surfacing between Wesley and Pam now that they have two children and the bulk of the childcare falls on Pam even though she has a full time job. Relationships between the police characters are not at their best either with Steve Carstairs finding himself in a sticky situation and Rachel struggling to control her feeling for Wesley. This is an interesting story with many layers and nuances. The characters are developing well and are believable. The interaction between the historical mystery and the present day ones are well done and fir together well. I recommend this series to anyone who likes their crime stories to be a little different.

I enjoyed the interweaving of the two main tales, and I will definitely be reading more of Kate Ellis's work - her writing is crisp, and her characters are very human
