Plague of Coins:

William Barrow carries a dark secret. A very dark secret.

An archivist for the Smithsonian Institute and also a part-time operative for the CIA, no one would ever suspect the handsome ‘thirty-ish’ William is in fact the most reviled human being to ever walk the earth. His infectious warmth and sense of humor make such an assertion especially hard to believe.

But long ago, William Barrow had another name…one that is synonymous with shame and betrayal: Judas Iscariot.

Forced to walk the earth as a cursed immortal, William/Judas is on a quest to reclaim the thirty silver shekels paid to him in exchange for Jesus Christ. Twenty-one coins have now been recovered—thanks in large part to the help from his latest son, the esteemed Georgetown University history professor, Alistair Barrow.

Ever hopeful the complete coin collection will buy him a full pardon from God and end his banishment from heaven, William plans a visit to a remote village deep within Iran’s Alborz Mountains to retrieve ‘silver coin number twenty-two’. But the CIA has a different objective for this trip, one that pits both father and son against an unscrupulous Russian billionaire searching for something else that’s just as precious within the ancient mountains of Iran…something that threatens peace in the modern world if William and Alistair fail to reach it first.

The Vampires’ Last Lover:

Txema Ybarra is the most unenviable nineteen-year-old girl alive.

Smart, pretty, and athletically gifted, this University of Tennessee freshman should be enjoying college life and her entrance into adulthood. And for a moment she does…until the vampires show up.

Born with an unusual ‘twin teardrop’ birthmark on her neck, Txema (pronounced Chema) is one of only a handful of females in the world who bear this trait. It marks her as a vessel of eternal youth and beauty for an elite vampire society determined to protect her precious blood…. But it also is the only thing standing in the way of a rogue ‘undead’ nation determined to destroy mankind and usurp the power their sexier brethren have held uncontested for centuries.

Caught in the middle of this war after all the other bearers of the birthmark are murdered, Txema must flee America and heads to France under the protection of five beautiful vampires who all have a vested interest in her survival. The race is on to save her blood, as well as her very life, to ensure the survival of Les Amantes de Vampire. Otherwise, Txema will be the last one…the vampires’ last lover.

Acclaim for the novels of Aiden James:

“The intense writing style of Aiden James kept my eyes glued to the story and the pages seemed to fly by at warp speed. …Twists, turns, and surprises pop up at random times to keep the reader off balance. It all blends together to create one of the best stories I have read all year.”
—Detra Fitch, Huntress Reviews for The Devil’s Paradise

“Aiden James has written a deeply psychological, gripping tale that keeps the readers hooked from page one.”
—Bookfinds review for The Forgotten Eden

“The hook to this excellent suspense thriller is the twists that will keep readers wondering what is going on as nothing is quite what it seems…Aiden James provides a dark thriller that grips fans from the opening.”
—Harriet Klausner, for The Forgotten Eden

“Aiden James writing style flows very easily and I found that Cades Cove snowballed into a very gripping tale. Clearly the strengths in the piece were as the spirit’s interaction became prevalent with the family… The Indian lore and ceremonies and the flashbacks to Allie Mae’s (earthly) demise were very powerful. I think those aspects separated the work from what we’ve seen before in horror and ghost tales.”
—Evelyn Klebert, author of A Ghost of a Chance and Dragonflies

“Aiden James is insanely talented!”
—J.R. Rain, author of Moon Dance and Vampire Moon

"The Vampires' Last Lover" has to be one --if not THE--most unique vampire stories released in quite some time. Txema Ybarra's unusual birthmark and bloodline are keys to ancient hostilities between radically diverse vampire societies. The race is on to save Txema and her unique heritage from extinction. ***This story gripped me by the throat from the opening page and wouldn't let go until the very end!

"Plague of Coins" is an incredible tale that brings the unsavory character of Judas Iscariot and makes him likable and damned near lovable! Judas/William Barrow's quest for his elusive thirty pieces of silver will have you pulling for him to succeed. Add in the unexpected twists and turns that Aiden James is known for, and another masterpiece is born!

I can hardly wait for the sequels to both of these amazing books!!

Great Double Read! 20 May 2011
By Skyler J. Welken - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Txema Ybarra's unusual birthmark and bloodline are at the heart of a vampire war. I greatly enjoyed the twists and turns in this story, and found myself pulling for Txema and her unique heritage to survive. Gripping story that held my attention through to the last page.

I enjoyed the tale of Judas Iscariot and his search for the coins he once was paid to betray Christ even more. Aiden James made Judas (now William Barrow)damned near lovable! Again, lots of twists and turns to keep you on edge on through the very last page.

I can hardly wait for the sequels to both of these thrilling books!

Double Your Pleasure, Double Your Fun 16 Jan 2012

I was fortunate enough to find this duo during the Epic Kindle Fire Free Book Giveaway. Being authored by a fellow Tennessean, I felt doubly blessed.

I don't remember ever reading a book based on a fictional account of Judas Iscariot. I may be wrong, but this is certainly the first I'd read. And what a marvelous job Aiden James has done fleshing out a plausible and engaging storyline about one of the most mysterious (and maybe misunderstood) people in history. I found myself actually wanting to believe this. An absolutely "novel" approach, unique and compelling. Obviously a lot of research has been done on ancient lands and modern countries. The book was not skimpy in that regard. And a visit to the Garden of Eden, as an added bonus. I thoroughly enjoyed following Judas, Alistair and Amy on their journey, and the ending was a perfect end to this book. Very happy to see that the adventures of Judas will continue !

The second book, the Vampires, is also unique. I can't claim to have read every vampire thriller out there. It seems like everyone writes vampire these days. After reading and collecting all of Anne Rice, the knockoffs started. I do watch Vampire Diaries, sometimes watch True Blood, and have enjoyed the Twilight Saga. So what more could really be done with this genre?

Well, this. And honestly, being from Knoxville, he had me at UT/PatSummit/Massey Hall. Again, very well-researched as to places. I'm glad the locale changed to Europe. Couldn't do much with vamps in K-town. Another "novel" approach to a much-overdone genre. Strong characters, solid writing.

Both books easy and delightful to read, very enjoyable, and I will be purchasing the sequels. Kudos to Mr. James !

The best Immortals genre book I've read 16 Jan 2012
By Ed Pegg - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
The genre of Immortals is one of my favorites. I've read Anne Rice's The Mummy, Salathiel: The Immortal, I've seen all the Highlander movies and TV shows, Lauren Burd's series, V.K. Forrest's series, Juliet Immortal, and many other books of the genre.

Plague of Coins is the best of the genre I've read. (I'd put Anne Rice's Mummy at #2, and then early episodes of the Highlander TV series). Due to his betrayal for 30 coins, Judas has been cursed to stay on Earth. But he's still pretty much a normal guy, until he gets hurt. When hurt, he is kept alive. I prefer this sort of normality over Vampire genre fiction. The only odd thing facing Judas is that he's trying to collect those 30 coins back, all cursed objects themselves, in a hope that he can return them for salvation. Also, though this isn't an overtly religious story, Judas has a non-faith perspective on Jesus, since he was there.

So I liked the set-up. In the plot, he's an antiquities expert for the Smithsonian in the present day, and he learns of a likely location for one of the 30 coins, in Iran. But as William J. Barrow, he is being tracked for various reasons.

From there, an excellent adventure story ensues, filled with some excellent villains, complications, and marvels. I was somewhat reminded of the Indiana Jones series, or of the Uncharted videogames with Nathan Drake. When Judas is tied to a chair, surrounded by villains, who are threatening to kill people he loves, what good is it that he happens to be immortal? Quite a lot, as it turns out.

There is some good humor in the book as well. Highly recommended.
