Even if you're not using it as an A-Level text then it's a good read if journalism interests you. The articles really do display journalism at it's finest, and are often very thought provoking. As an A-Level text it was extremely nice to work with as it was very easy to recast the articles into other formats becuase the ideas of the writer are so well conveyed.

I bought this to get me ready before I go to university to study Broadcast Journalism. Its a wonderful read of women in history from the biggest events to the very personal. Is a great research handbook and brilliant for that extra helping hand and knowlege before I go to study journalism. Highly recommended.

Use for my English work in college. Not enough space to annotate but that doesn't matter as I use sticky notes. Loads of really interesting articles and they are brilliantly inspiring <3

I needed this book for my A2 English course at college, and it arrived quickly, and in good condition like stated. Exactly what I need, and also an interesting book.

To be quite honest, I found this book slightly awkward and puzzling - I remember my own English teacher who was a woman - and who used to make a big deal of reading the Guardian every day - abandoning it when it introduced women's pages - as an excuse to target women to advertise clothes etc, she thought. She thought that it was rather insulting to insinuate that women would only, or necessarily, be interested in 'chick-stuff'.

I don't know whether I agree with her or not - or feel completely patronised or not - but someone pointed out to me today (International Women's Day) that there was a great worry/inconsistancy abroad about the Irish Magdalene Laundries Scandal. According to the article in the Guardian about the Court Case in Ireland it only came to an end - the business and the abuse - in 1996 - so how come the BBC, for instance, which has offices in Ireland even, did not know about it - or had made no documentaries about it - and how come other newspapers in England had failed to investigate it/report it before Febraury 2013??????

I bought this for my daughter for using in A level English at college. She said it looked rather boring, and it didn't excite her much. After reading it she has completely changed her mind, It has opened her eyes to a lot of things she hadn't thought much about before.

Brilliant read. Well written with interesting facts. Proves that women journalists are just as good (if not better) than men.
