With cupcakes being ultra-fashionable in the cake world at the moment, there have been a whole clutch of books released on this subject over the last two or three years. Needless to say, the standard of them is variable and the cook needs to look through them carefully before buying; some are most definitely better than others.
This book is produced in the very familiar style of Australian Woman's Weekly, so the recipes are clear and the photographs are high quality. Every one is photographed, which is always a bonus.
As the title suggests, the designs are grouped by colour and there is a wealth of ideas, both for the cook who just wants to reproduce a recipe or for the more adventurous baker who uses the designs to inspire their own creations.
Not quite as entertaining as Kate Shirazi, and not quite as accomplished as Peggy Porschen, hence the four stars, but very cute nevertheless and well worth the price.
