I was rather disappointed with this publication. As a west cumbrian I have an intimate knowledge of the local dialect. Many of the words in this list of "local" words were, in fact, words in general use throughout England and can be found in any english dictionary. There were, of course, many words that are specific to this area and credit must be given for the work involved in compiling them. More of these words and the elimination of words that are not confined, at least, to northern regions would have made this book much more representative of our local speech.

Having lived on the border of Cumbria for many years it is amazing what you use in everyday life and don't know you are speaking the local dialect

A great read if you want to confuse your southern friends
