Format:Audio CD
This is, in my opinion when the Polecats were at there best, wild & raw! The album gives you the feel of the early wild live gigs in Mill Hill, North London of the late seventies at the beginning of the Rockabilly revival. They had recently changed their name from the Cult Heroes because frankly it made them sound too much like a Punk band.

The Polecats were the fore runners, the trend setters for British rockabilly, they presented us with a taste of the '50's american rockabilly artists which where at the time very hard to come by. The early version of Rockabilly Guy on Nervous Records written by Phil Bloomberg (the Polecats Bass player) really recreates that authentic sound of a small southern American recording studio of the '50's and has become the bands theme tune.

Tim Worman's (now Tim Polecat) vocals are good on this album with hiccups and all. I personally feel that Boz Boorer (lead guitar) & Phil Bloomberg have the better vocal range, but Tim did prove to be a wild frontman, especially live as he jumps & leaps all over the stage and really goes for it!

The tracks on this album are raw Rockabilly and not the Neo-Rockailly sound that they progressed to later when they started recording for the Mercury label.

This is a must for all Rockabilly lovers and fans of the Polecats!

It'll make ya get up and dance. 18 Dec 1998

Many people accuse the Polecats of immatating the Stray Cats. Well, they weren't; jealous mabye, but no copy Cats. The late '70's/ early '80's was a rockabilly revival, or movement, which means that it was just coincidentally taken up by a few deep-hearted rock-n-rollers, and later turned into a trend. These were one of few pioneers with rockabilly in their souls- like the Stray Cats, with more of a drunken British feel. This and their first album reflect this rockin sound.

swingin' cats! 18 Jan 2005

If you love these guys as much as i do, you owe it to yourself to pick up the "Swing Cats" CD. The Swing Cats is the repository of members of the ex-Polecats combined with the ex-Stray Cats (minus Brian Setzer). On their self-titled debut, they cover artists as diverse as Carl Perkins, Hank Williams Sr. ("Mind Your Own Business") and Benny Goodman, with vocals supplied by an array of guests. Quite Good!
