I bought this opener for my mother whose arthritis often means opening jars is rather problematic. It's not been a disappointment! It takes a little while to go through the process of clamping onto the jar lid, twisting it and then releasing but it has worked every time. The novelty value is such that my mother has taken to demonstrating how good it is to anyone who visits, even if the jar doesn't need opening! An excellent product and certainly one to recommend for anyone with dexterity issues or those who find the strength to open a jar perhaps too much.

This opener was puchased from the local Robert Dyas store, simply because it was wanted, immediately, and it was only £14.99!
It is worth noting that the unit will start up immediatly your batteries are inserted. The battery cover/top appears to be very small and fragile for a pair of elderly hands! Batteries are not included - which is a great pity - but probably for economic reasons.
It has now been used more than a dozen times, on glass jars of various weights, performing really well, even if rather slowly. It was also use to open a plastic bottle of Cadbury's drinking chocolate. Although the outer clamp crushed the bottle top, it removed the plastic lid without further problems. Once the tool was removed, the plastic bottle reshaped itself to normal.
In all probability, a good purchase provided it is strong enough to be used in a household where age is taking a heavy toll on elderly individuals.
There is also a matching electric can opener from the same company. That too, appears to be a good purchase provided the plastic can withstand the heavy use within a kitchen.

What a load of rubbish
Don't even bother buying one of these jar openers. Looks like they have a serious manufacturing fault. I used it once to check it worked before giving it to my mother in law. Read more

A jar opener that works!
My motherinlaw cannot open any type of bottle or jar with her very bad hands and fingers. This product even works on small plastic water bottles.Invaluable!!!
